    Uninstalling the OS

Can the OS be uninstalled on a Verizon 8830 BB and if so how do you do it? My wife is having problems with her BB and the only thing left that we haven't tried is to uninstall and then reinstall the OS. Thanks.

    Re: Uninstalling the OS

Actually the install process does uninstall the current Software on the Device. That process is necessary with Flash Memory. It's one of the reasons that the reload process takes so long. It's a time consuming process to reset all the memory locations to the empty logical state.

I uninstalled and then reinstalled the BB software on my computer then I followed the instructions to delete the vendor.xml file which I have to say did absolutely nothing. When I connected the 8830 to the computer the Desktop Manager didn't recognize any new updates so we're right back to square one. Thanks for trying to help. I guess the next step is to call Verizon and see what they have to say.

The problem we thought we had turns out not to be a problem after all. My wife's browser page was showing little icons at the top of the page where as mine didn't so we thought she had a problem. On Verizonwireless web page they show the same icons so they must belong there.

Speaking of those little icons, does anybody know what they mean or what they're for? There's a little yellow padlock which is open and then another litttle icon to the left of the padlock which we can't identify.

I am going to assume that the padlock open is a non SSL page, while a locked padlock would represent a secure connection using SSL encryption. The other icon could be the network connection indicator. If your looking at a little box with two green (or red if you've lost network connectivity) connected to it.
