    Question Tmo OS Update

Ok, I just went out and puchased a 2gig Micro SD card for my bb Pearl. I have v4.2.0.42 (Platform 2.2.0.28) and apparently you cannot use a 2gig card on this version, but can on the newer versions. I have Tmo and I've been trying to DL the update off thier site but it basicly says there is to much traffic and I need to try back later today. Well, a couple days have passed and I still get the same message... Anyone know of another place to get the update?

    Thanks in advance.

You can download any carrier's OS. Just don't forget to delete the vendor.xml file.

I would just use Cingular's new OS upgrade, v4.2.0.71

I did download from TMO before traffic was a problem and can confirm that the 2 GB card will work.

    Re: Tmo OS Update

If you go back out to TMO's site and keep refreshing the update page, you should eventually get through.

I've tried TMO, Rogers, Cingular and Vodofone OS's and all of the fixes seem to be invisible to me. The trademark of the TMO .42 OS is the auto backlight feature, but you want to use a 2 gig memory card, so you're in a tight spot. By the way, I finally settled on the Cingular .71 OS (even though I'm a TMO customer) just cuz it was the latest out there. Hope that helps.

So how do you install the cingular OS? I have tried but for some reason when i connect my BB to my PC while the desktop software is open it does not ask me to update the OS.

    Re: Tmo OS Update

What works best for me is to uninstall all previous versions of the OS on your PC (they will be "BlackBerry v4.2.0..." entries in your Add/Remove Programs). Then, go ahead and run the Cingular (or any other OS) installer. Make sure your BB is not connected during the process. Then, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and delete the vendor.xml file. Then hook up your BB and open Desktop Manager. After that, you should be prompted to upgrade to the new OS. Hope that helps.

So by downloading the Cingular OS update we will lose the auto backlight feature? Thanks

Unfortunately yes...you have to make the call if you really want it or not.

    Re: Tmo OS Update

    Ok thanks,
Also, i first apologize in case this has already been asked/answered somwhere else but is there anywhere I can find a nice and easy tutorial or list of instructions for backing up my BB so i dont lose anything, then installing the new OS and then restoring everything so it's just like it was. I have a huge fear i'll lose something valuable in the process.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
