    Saving bookmarks as icons

    Hi,
I have a new 8300/Curve on AT&T. I would like to save bookmarks as an icon on the main page (desktop). Is there a way to do it? I see that there are already several apps that function in this way (for instance the weather push icon). Can I create my own link in this manner?
Sorry if this is obvious-I'm new to this OS.
    Thanks,
    Dan

The push service icon you refer to are accomplished by the creation of a service book. I not familiar with the tools necessary for the generation if a service book. I believe that une could use the Blackberry JDE to creat an application that opened the Browser with a Given webpage opened.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Saving bookmarks as icons

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure I entirely understand-I am rather new to this, though I have a lot of technical experience.

I was under the impression that servicebooks determined what services are available, rather than customizing the device.

As for the JDE, I gather that it is a programming environment? I would have thought that there was an easier way to create a new icon. Essentially, I want to create the equivilent of an alias (Mac user here, though I know the concept exists in Windows and certainly in Linux).

Any simpler workarounds or do I need to start programming right away?

    Thanks again?
    Dan

    Re: Saving bookmarks as icons

Remember that windows, OSX and Linux GUIs all are designed to run on much more powerful machines than the Blackberry. Creating desktop shortcuts hasn't been a priority for RIM before. Priorities for development are set by the believed desires for the target audience, which until recently has been the BES based business user. This is slowing changing.

As to service books, Yes, they are used to determine what service is available on the BB, but more importantly, to control how the BB addresses that service. The internet Browser is a service and I believe that a service book could be developed to go to a specific website, but then again I'm not positive about that.

    Hope this helps.

I think there is a third party app that will allow the an icon for a single bookmark discussed in the 3rd party software forum.

    Hope this helps.

I had a look for the app. Couldn't find it.
Can you remember the name, or suggest some search terms I could use to find it?
    Thanks,
    Dan

The one I've been using is called Web Shortcuts. I found it on BB Forums. It's in the early stages. Like it so far. Can't wait for further updates. Check it out. Feel free to PIN me if you have any q's.

    Re: Saving bookmarks as icons

Is this supposed to launch the browser? Because I have to hit the "Shortcut" button and then launch my browser seperately. If not, I can't see why it would be useful. As bookmarks would be just as fast.
    What am i missing?

    TIA
