While I was trying to upgrade the software on my 7100g it froze at this screen that says 'Connecting to Desktop...' and now my computer can't even see that it is hooked up. I've tried reinstalling and restoring but nothing is working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try the steps listed in this thread, How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't recognize The Device Is Connected. Follow them very carefully, espcially those that are in red.

Glad we could help. As to the start up time I think that isn't unusual.
To make it easier the next time you have a problem, it will really help us help you if you take the time to fill in your PinStack Profile with the information concerning your device. Model, OS and Platform (Found on Options/About), BES Status, Location, and Carrier. Depending on the question, each of these may have an impact on how we respond.
