The BlackBerry Desktop Manager may not show Connected even if the BlackBerry smartphone is connected to the computer. Just proceed to run the application loader tool to load the BlackBerry Device Software.

Try this thread to see if you can get DM to recognize BB:

In fact when I did try that there wasn't even an option to select USB Pin. So I tried Detect Device several times and got nothing.

I wish I really knew what to tell you. The only things that came to mind,

    1. Maybe your usb cable is shot, did you try another? Will your pc recognize your BB as a disc drive, allow you to add songs to your media card without DM, I don't even know if your BB has a media card, I'm not familiar with the 8800 series.

    2. Do you have a way to hook it to another computer to see if its a pc problem or if by coindidence the usb port on your BB went bad around the same time as your upgrading the OS?

I'm just grasping at straws here.....I think its been bad timing between you and the real experts here. I wish I knew more to help, but maybe someone else can offer more advice.~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~
