    new blackberry owner. OS question

    Hi all,

I just purchased a 8310 and love it thus far. I did have a quick question about the OS though. Since I just purchased it, does it have the most up to date OS already installed on it? When I go into options, it says v4.2.2.170. If it does need updated, can someone please post a link on how to do it. Sorry for all of the newbie questions.

here is a list of OS for you take a look at it and find which on you have and compare it to the others. any OS made for the 8310 will work even if its by a different carrier

If you do use an OS from another carrier other than your own, you will have to delete the vendor.xml

Thanks for the quick response. Are these OS free? Also, will I need to backup my data after before the install?

Sounds easy enough. I feel stupid now for asking! . Its kind of interesting that they didn't include the most recent OS on this phone when I just purchased it the other day. It appears that v4.2.2.312 is the one now available for ATT. I currently am on v4.2.2.170. Should I always just download the highest version?

Re: new blackberry owner. OS question

That depends on what kind of issues you are having. If you are having a memory leak issue, the newer version usually fixes it. The reason you are on that version is because that is the version designated to your carrier. Like its been stated, you can use any 8310 OS from any carrier but you MUST delete the vendor.xml first
