SureType® Enhancements

Word Completion
As BlackBerry smartphone users type, a list of word options is displayed when the BlackBerry smartphone user pauses. The vertical list consists of word selections that are the closest match to the word the BlackBerry smartphone user is trying to type. The BlackBerry smartphone user may then select the word.
Advanced Editing
BlackBerry smartphone users may now scroll to a word they want to correct and move between specific letters by rolling the trackball up or down to flip between letters.
Improved Frequency Learning
Commonly used words are recognized with greater consistency.

Wireless BlackBerry Device Software Upgrades
BlackBerry smartphone users can wirelessly upgrade their BlackBerry smartphone.
Voice Notes
BlackBerry smartphone users can record voice notes using the Voice Notes feature. Voice notes can be sent using the following:

Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) messages
email messages
personal identification number (PIN)
instant messaging

The BlackBerry smartphone user may also store the recorded voice note locally for playback at a later time. For more information on Voice Notes, see below.
Note: BlackBerry Messenger supports this feature with BlackBerry Device software 4.2.1.
Selectable Phone Equalizer
Adjust the audio to best suit the BlackBerry smartphone user listening preference. Listening preferences include:

Normal
Boost Bass
Boost Treble

Enhanced Voice IT Policy Controls
IT Policies may be used to manage voice usage. A whitelist (always allow) and blacklist (never allow) of phone numbers can be created.

Ability to Allow Ability to Control International Calls - allow or deny international calls received to the BlackBerry smartphone.
Ability to Allow or Deny by Area Code and Single Numbers - create Allow or Deny calling lists by area code and single numbers.

BlackBerry® Maps Enhancements

Points of Interest
Using the Local Search menu option, search for local businesses and landmarks within a 30 kilometer radius of the current location. For instructions, see below.
Route Saving
Routes from one location to another may be saved for later viewing. For instructions, see below.

Multimedia Enhancements

Send and receive video files using MMS
Attach video files to MMS messages, and play video files received using MMS. For more information, see below.
3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) Progressive download
Allows streaming and playback of media from web sites on the BlackBerry smartphone using the browser.
3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) Progressive download
Allows streaming and playback of media from web sites on Wi-Fi® enabled BlackBerry smartphones.
Music playlist support in the Media application
Create and edit playlists (in .m3u format) directly in the Media application on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Video recording
BlackBerry smartphone users can record video using the Camera by selecting the Video Camera icon. The following options may be selected to control settings:
Video light - brightens dark environments to improve video recording

White balance - control white balance of the camera; options include Automatic, Indoor, and Sunny

Video format - use normal mode (240X180) or lower quality MMS mode (176X144)

Store videos - decide where to save video files

Browser Enhancements
The start page accommodates easier navigation and displays the five most recently visited bookmarks. If the BlackBerry smartphone user clicks Bookmarks or History, they are redirected to a dedicated screen, respectively.

What is the voice notes application
You can use the voice notes application on your BlackBerry smartphone to record a short voice message (up to one minute long).
Voice notes are sent using the Multimedia Message Service (MMS). You cannot send a voice note if this service is not on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Voice Notes restrictions

Voice notes larger than 300 KB cannot be sent as MMS text messages.
Personal indentifcation number (PIN) messages and BlackBerry Messenger voice note messages cannot be larger then 15 KB.
Voice notes will only be recorded in AMR format; however, files of any recognized audio format will be listed in the voice notes folder on the BlackBerry smartphone.
The voice notes feature may be disabled using an IT policy.

How to improve sound quality during a phone call or for all phone calls

Note: You can only change sound quality for the earpiece on your BlackBerry smartphone.
To improve sound quality for all phone calls, complete the following steps:

In the Phone application, display the menu and select Options.
Click General Options.
Change the Enhance Call Audio field.
Display the menu and select Save.

To improve sound quality during a phone call, complete the following steps:

During a phone call, display the menu and select Enhance Call Audio.
Select Boost Bass or Boost Treble.
Display the menu and select Save.

To review the different Selectable Phone Equalizers during a phone call, press the L key. The enhancement specific icons are displayed on the active call screen.
Note: If an enhancement is selected, the enhancement specific icon is be displayed on the active call screen.

How to perform a Points of Interest search

To view a list of points of interest near a location, complete the following steps:
You can search for points of interest such as businesses, airports, schools, parks, or landmarks.

On a map, display the menu and select Local Search.
Type the point of interest information. For example, type pizza and press the enter key.
The Google Local Search: pizza screen lists the names of the local pizza locations.
Complete one of the following:
- Scroll to the wanted pizza names. The Pizza name expands automatically to display the address, phone number, and distance.
- Click the pizza name. The menu is displayed with the following options:
  1. To view the pizza location on the map, select View On Map
  2. To call the pizza restaurant, select Call <phone number>
  3. To view the pizza restaurant details (including address and phone number), press Details

Save a location using BlackBerry Maps

To save a location as a favourite, complete the following steps:

On a map, display the menu and select Add To Favorites.
When prompted with the Save Location dialog box, enter the following information:
- Label - enter the title in this field. If the BlackBerry smartphone is running BlackBerry Device Software 4.3, the Label defaults to the address.
- Description - enter a description of the map for future reference. If the BlackBerry smartphone is running BlackBerry Device Software 4.3, the address is saved to Folder: Favorites, by default.
Click OK. The map is saved to you favorites.

To view Favorite Locations, complete one of the following steps:
BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry Device Software 4.3

In BlackBerry Maps, display the menu and select Find Location > From Favorites.
Select the saved address. The map is displayed.

BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry Device Software 4.2

In BlackBerry Maps, display the menu and select Favorites.
Scroll to the map you want to view, display the menu and select Select. The map is displayed.

What is the Attach Video menu item and video quick tips using Multimedia Message Service

When composing a Multimedia Message Service (MMS) message, a new Attach Video menu item will be available. When selected, the Attach Video menu option launches a video selection screen to select from the non-Digital Rights Management (non-DRM) protected videos on the BlackBerry smartphone.
General video quick tips

Video content can be deleted or moved between slides.
Video content can be previewed in a media window prior to sending.
Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) layout rule is enforced to make sure that video content is not on the same slide as another image or audio content.
The BlackBerry smartphone is not able to convert video size or duration or format before sending; therefore, the video must be in a supported format before sending.
Non-Digital Rights Management (non-DRM) protected video messages can be forwarded as new messages.

Received videos using MMS quick tips

When receiving an MMS message with video content the video content plays inline with the body of the MMS message.
Standard media player controls apply.
Slide timings are supported.
The BlackBerry smartphone user may save received videos to the media library.
Digital Rights Management (DRM) protected videos can be saved but used from the BlackBerry smartphone.
