My computer crashed 90% in to an upgrade, help!

That pretty much says it all, I was updating my OS from .171 to .180 on my 8320 and my computer locked up. What to do? Any suggestions? It shows as connected in DM now, but shows no PIN.

Take a look at this post - I believe it will help. Most important -- be patient! May take serveral attempts!

Thanks for the link Gary. I guess my main concern is this. The upgrade was nearly finished, so if I were to try it again should I choose to backup or not to backup my data? I don't want to backup what is now likely empty data over my original backup info. Not sure if that even makes any sense at all.

Currently my phone has had the spinning hourglass for the last 10 minutes or so while my computer rebooted. DM does see the phone, and now shows a PIN if I start the App Loader. I have to say I'm a little wary about proceeding though.

First of all I would let it sit a bit longer....just in case. You may even want to pull the battery and restart it before you try another install.

Not sure what is involoved (data wise) in your back up or how important it is...I believe it will start a new file but I am not positive, sorry.

Phew... well the phone is up and running. I seem to have lost pics, a custom wallpaper, my PIN messenger contacts, wireless settings, and old messages. The old messages are the only thing I'll really miss... Now I have to try to remember my key for my wireless.

    Thanks for the help.

OK, the latest. After essentially getting up and running with an empty shell, I restored the backup I made just prior the the upgrade and it seems all my info is back and all is good. Even better, UMA is now working again!

Looks like I may need more patience, now I seem to have no working data connection, even when I'm supposedly on WiFi and it says UMA on the screen.

The exact message I get with GMail apps is "Network Unavailable: This program requires a working data connection. Please check your signal strength."

Of course the signal strength appears to be good... I can visit web pages using the included browser, but not with Opera Mini. The aggregate email (combined BB email / messaging app) seems to be getting my messages regardless of the GMail apps behaviors.

I realize all of this doesn't belong in this section, so I'll move it to another forum if I can't get it fixed in the next few hours on my own. For all I know it's related to the TMO UMA outage that's being going on the last few days.

i've been through all that, too. the data connection is the last thing that comes back. to get it quickly, sign in to your BIS and resend the service books. that's the last step I take when I resuscitate my blackberry to get my data back after i mess it up (every time I upgrade it, it goes kaput with a blank screen)
