unfortunately if you call them they will not be able to answer the question, as I have already tried with some insiders with RIM, they cannot and will not devulge that information, and will likely refer you to your carrier.

By calling my carrier, what are the chances will they know since the OS is coming from RIM itself. Maybe if I go all the way to the top people?hehe

I spoke to tmobile last night about an issue I was having with uma and bluetooth. They finally escalated me to RIM, and the guy I spoke to said that they recognized the problem, and that it should be resolved in the next release. I confirmed he was talking about 4.5, and then asked if I was going to be waiting weeks or months for the new OS to solve my problem. He pointed towards a release with tmobile within weeks, and his voice was very guarded. So, I would presume that it will be very soon!

The update yes is coming from RIM, but it is up to each carrier to have RIM post it on thier carrier Download page, the carrier has the say when that happens as they have to finish testing with thier network before it releases.
The carrier will know once its released as new information will need to be provided to the reps answering the calls.

From your phone carrier. If you have tmo, it is at www.tmobile.com/bbupgrade

Hi guys. Don't know how far it is true but I just got off the phone with a Rogers Wireless rep as I had issues with my Curve. While I was talking to the person, I cordially asked about the release of the OS 4.5. He was at first hesitant to release the info but towards the end, he informed me that it will be released by RIM within the end of the month. So hopefully we will have a new OS. From what I was told, you have to download it from RIM's site. Hope this helps.

It will also be out for the 8700 series, but it will be their last major update.
