    I have decided it could be a hardware issue as well. I am trying to charge the 7100 battery through the 8100 device, and it is not working so far. The battery might be damage.

    My fear is that when I used the batt of the 8100 in the 7100 it finally resulted in the same error "battery drain" and I inmediately took the batt out from the 7100 put it in the 8100 and that batt is working perfectly.

    It's like the 7100 would damage the batteries. Does it make any sense?

    I suppose it is possible. How old is your 7100?

    I PM'd RCBJr to take a look at your problem. He is an engineer and may be a bit more technically savy on this issue.

    News again,

    Erica, I tried with another battery. A charged one. The one I use for the 8100. I've uploaded the OS in the 7100, it seemed to work (the battery is full, I am currently using it in the 8100) and.... same error: Battery Drain!!!!!! Shutting down handheld.

    Why?

    I don't really know how old it is. I might say one year?? Maybe one and a half?

    By the way, I think this all started when I was trying to charge the battery of the BB from my laptop in the airport of Buenos Aires or Panama (don't remember, just adding that information since I red something about antennas damaging OS) and the laptop was umpluged. I don't know if that might help...

    ok guys. No more news on this issue. I am almost sure it is the battery or come component of the device that can't get the energy from it.

    It seemed to be ok, but there was no way to charge it. I've tried to turn it on several times, but it started and stoped. It got stuck in the hourglass, or battery drain error would come and the last error i've read said 411 again.

    I got pissed off and smashed it against the floor several times. It seems to be charging now, but it will probably work until it reaches the maximum and will give me some of these errors again.

    It's time to give up. It's not a software but a hardware problem. Thank you very much for your support!!!

    I cant imagine what would cause you to have a hardware problem.

    Hello Lebanon,

    Your problem is similar to a problem I had a year ago with my BB 7290. I'm not a technician I think it is a software problem. I had also a combination of the device 411 error and a drained battery error. I think that the drained battery error is a software error and not a hardware error. After numerous attempts to solve this issue and reading a lot about this issue I couln't solve the problem. Finally, I got a brand new blackberry and after restore, my new BB gave the same errors
    After that I started again with a new one without a restore. Finally this worked fine.
    Good luck, I remember it was a horrible problem and hard to understand.

    Interesting....however if it is software related the Java Wipe, which is complete, and the new OS install should correct it, dont you think? Not being critical of your reply -- I am honestly asking your thoughts on this, especially since you have dealt with it before.

    Gary,

    You are right with your thoughts. I was astounded that I got a 411 code error again after a complete wipe, but even more astounded that I got the same 411 error on a brand new BB with new software (after restore). I now remember that they even created new SIM cards for my phone.
    Also the IT people at my office couldn't explain this issue. The third new BB 7290 was the most practical solution, without a solution for the actual problem unsolved).
    My new 7290 works now fine during the last year (fingers crossed), but I have a serious problem with my new 8310 (see my post).

    I was absolutely sure it could not be a software problem.

    After smashing it several times agains the floor (please, children do not try this at home), the BB is working perfectly.

    I thought it might be some type of connection that was not working properly, but I wouldn't take the time to open it and, furthermore, I wouldn't know what to change.

    The thing is that the status (411, battery drain or normal) varied when I moved it or take it or leave it somewhere. That led me to believe there was some loose connection.

    The only problem I have now (and I had before too) is that sometimes people cannot hear when I call.

    I've read somewhere that's a very commom problem in BBs as well...

    This is all folks

    I might be writing in some hours or tomorrow to say it shut down again (who knows) but it seems to be working now (let's cross fingers)

    From what I have read, it appears that it is a hardware problem. If it were software related, knocking it on a hard surface wouldn't affect it. I suggest a replacement in the near future.

    Besides the 7100 series is just so passé don't you think?

    Richard, I am waiting for the code to unlock my 8100. Once that's done, I will forget about this 7100, but believe me, it's been challenging.

    I have one last stupid question:

    If I wipe the BB, insall a new SO and a new firmware, wouldn't it result unlocked? What is locking the system if I am insatalling everything from zero?

    Lebanon,

    I am in Brazil and having the same ERROR 411 in my BB7290.
    I did EVERYTHING and follow all instructions, but this Device Erro 411 still appears.
    It is definetly not a software problem, but a combination of hardware and software on the RADIO of the device...

    The 7100 e 7290 apparently presents a manufacture problem. They say that the 800 series does not have this problem.

    Anyway.... I like the 7290 and would like to stick with it....but I'm afraid of buying another one and having the same problem.

    Did hiting the device on the floor fixed the problem?
