Errors 411, 507 and then hourglass: I already followed all the instructions

Hello there. I am sorry if I am asking something many people already asked, but I've READ ALL the posts and even if I keep respecting all the instructions, my BB7100V will not work.

I have already reinstalled the Desktop Manager and the Vodafone Spain Hanheld driver. I have also installed the jcomander. I have deleted the vendor.xml file. I have replaced the .axl file, etc.

The First error I got was 411 Device Error. Reboot. Then I moved to the 507. Then I got the hourglass and the red light. If I try to press all the buttons, I randomly get the 411 error and then it gets back to the hourglass.

I have followed all the instructions (for 411, for 501, and for some other errors I did not even have). May anybody please tell me what I could do in this case.

Thank you so much in advance...

    lebanon....

Just to be sure....a few questions.
    1. Did you actually run JL_Cmder and wipe your device?
    2. You mention a driver - did you download and install on your desktop the operating system you want to install?
    3. What version of Desktop Manager are you using?

507 Error means no operating system is installed.

    1. Did you actually run JL_Cmder and wipe your device?
I did so. After that, I kept on playing with the other options until the program started to give some errors and I closed it.
    2. You mention a driver - did you download and install on your desktop the operating system you want to install?
I downloaded from bb website the one for Vodafone Spain: 7100M_PBr4.1.0_rel210_PL1.8.0.143_A4.1.0.256_Voda_ Spain.exe
    3. What version of Desktop Manager are you using?
I think I was using 4.2. Since I am not sure, I am currently downloading BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.2 (Multilanguage) (161.149 Mb).
    ==========
I started trying again (all this coming explanation is with the desktop I had before. I haven't done anthing yet with the desktop I am currently downloading):
    1. I got to the point where the computer does not recognize the BB. I replaced the .axl file using 7100-T-Mobile-4.1.0.365.zip.
    2. I runed the Desktop software (the old one) with the uncompressed .axl.
    3. It gave me some errors (as far as I had read, that's normal and I should keep on trying) until the message I received said Successful upgrading or something like that.
    4. At this point, I have gotten the 411 device error again. I am downloading the new desktop to see if it works this time.

    END.

    Any further questions or suggestions?

    Thanks a lot!

Re: Errors 411, 507 and then hourglass: I already followed all the instructions

lebanon - I would basically start from scratch. Take a look at the post regarding the 7100v below from jdellasala and make sure you are following these steps....

    Re: BB 7100V, upload firmware
First, check your handheld. From the main screen go to (Settings/Tools -->) Options --> About. If the third line down says v4.1.0.292 (Platform 1.8.0.144) you already have the latest version firmware and only need to wipe the device.

To wipe the device, from the main screen go to (Settings/Tools -->) Options --> Security Options --> General Settings. Click the wheel and select Wipe Handheld. You'll be given a warning - click Continue. You will then be asked to enter blackberry. Type blackberry and hit [Enter] and all existing data will be wiped from the device.

If you need to install the firmware, go here and download and install Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 without Media Manager - either English or Multilanguage (Media Manager won't work with the 7100), then go here and download and install BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.1.0.314 (Multilanguage). Check here for some tips on installing Desktop Manager.

Once you've done both installations, plug in your device, and once detected it will ask if you want to upgrade the OS. Hit the [Advanced] button and select to NOT backup and restore to wipe everything (including any installed 3rd party applications) from the device. If there are third party applications you want to retain, let it backup/restore.

NOTE: The 7100 is a very slow device. Without the Backup/Restore it can take almost an hour - a lot of that time waiting for the device to reboot. It is VERY SLOW in rebooting - be patient! Do NOT unplug the device! With a Backup/Restore it will take closer to two hours.

    Good luck!

Re: Errors 411, 507 and then hourglass: I already followed all the instructions

Thank you so much for your time!

    Several issues:
    1. I cannot choose any option. I never get to run the OS. Maximum I get is the hourglass.
    2. There most be something wrong, cause the whole process takes me about 15 mins. I have already done this some 10 times...

I'll try once again to run the DM.

    Things to take into consideration:

    1. All this started by an error that said "loose of battery" or something like that. It then became 411 device error: reboot. I got so pissed off that I threw the phone against the floor.
    2. As I have a BB Pearl and it is not unlocked yet, I used that battery to make the 7100 work. And it did. Until it came to the same battery error. I then decided to read something about all this.
    3. I have been doing all the processes I have already described. Sometimes the OS has initialized, but I have inmediatelly gotten the 411 error again.

I don't know how many days and hours I have spent with this, but it doesn't seem to improve. I would rather say it is worsening...

Re: Errors 411, 507 and then hourglass: I already followed all the instructions

    News:

    1. I have uninstalled the DM4.2 I had. (as I said)
    2. I have left the BB connected to the computer (basically cause I forgot).
    3. The comp. has not recognized the BIM and asked me to search for it.
    4. I've chosen to cancel.
    5. The red light of the BB has stayed continuesly red.
    6. I have reinstalled the DM4.2 with media (I hadn't received your answer yet).
    7. I have done nothing else (I am currently working) and suddenly...
    8. The OS has initialized.
    9. I have chosen to wipe (my firm was 4.1.0.256)
    10. It has restarted.
    11. Current situation: Seems to be working. However, surprisingly it has kept lots of sms I had and it says low battery and I cannot turn the radio on nor umplag it from the computer cause I am scared of doing anything that may damage it.

    Any new suggestions???

THANK YOU SO MUCH. This is so strange...

Re: Errors 411, 507 and then hourglass: I already followed all the instructions

Well...what is your current error condition? 411 is a radio failure so we will assume that is software related. 507 is no OS.

The battery comments concern me. They indicate you may have a hardware issue. If I read correctly you have changed batteries after you got a loose battery error. Now you have a low battery condition. Is this correct? How old is this phone? Any corrosion on the battery leads?

Here is what I would do now: Start from scratch.
Delete the OS you installed on your desktop
    Reboot your computer.
Run JL_Cmder and wipe the device clean.
Re-install the new OS on your desktop.
Now I am not clear what you have done with the alx files. Are you using a OS not from your provider? If so delete the vendor file but for now lets not download or modify any other files.
Launch Desktop Manager and it should detect the device and the OS and do its thing. If not, pull the battery out and launch DM again. Here is the post that deals with installing an OS when your system will not detect the device.

How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't Recognize The Device Is Connected
Problem: When trying to re-install an operating system that constantly intializes, Desktop Manager will not recognize the device.

    Solution: The following walkthough!

Thank you to Pentace for this excellent walkthough:

FYI this will work for any handheld that constantly initializes.. aka the hourglass of doom.

    1. Install the desktop software.
    2. Install the handheld software. (If it is a non Vendor software.. exp. T-Mobile. search and delete the "vendor.xml" file.)
    3. Pull the battery out of your device.
    4. With the battery out connect the device to the computer.
    5. Go to Options and select "connection settings"
    6. Select USB PIN this may take a few moments since there is no battery in the device. you might even have to select detect device in some rare cases.
    7. Select the application loader icon.
    8. Select all software you want installed.
    9. Proceed to the end portion untill you see the "Finish" button.
    10. Very IMPORTANT. do not hit the finish button, instead select the ADVANCED button.
    11. Make sure both boxes are checked.
    12. Proceed until it asks you if you want to automatically back up and restore. Select DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY BACK UP MY HANDHELD.
    13. Once the process starts. take care not to bump out the cord and re-insert the battery. Again on some rare occasions you might have to wait until it finishes saying connect to insert the battery.

THIS MAY FAIL THE FIRST OR SECOND TIME DONT WORRY JUST KEEP TRYING.

If you do not get it by the 3rd time.. download the Blackberry java developers kit and install it. once installed find the javaloader.exe file and move it into the c:\ directory

Once it is under the c:\, go to start then run and type. cmd.exe

After the command prompt apears type in "c:\javaloader -usb wipe" to wipe the handheld

*The reason I have highlighted Step 13 is that this is very important to do BEFORE the DM tries to re-start your device because it WILL NOT re-intialize your device IF THE BATTERY IS NOT IN YOUR DEVICE.

Re: Errors 411, 507 and then hourglass: I already followed all the instructions

I am sorry but I can't stop thanking you.
    Let's see.

Everything seemed to be working. Suddenly the red LED became green (yellow) and it looked like the battery were charging. But it has become red again.

The image of the battery was going crazy: I got it with the ray logo (like charging), the question mark inside the battery (like not working) and both images, the ray and the question mark.

After that, I am stuck again in 411 device error.

My last impression: Apparently, when I move it errors start. It's like there was an error in the usb connection. When I move the cable, things change in the phone: LED color, or even 411 coming.

It might be a hardware problem. What do you think? I shall try to install everything for the last time.

    Thank you!

    OK. several hours later...
I've had the bb connected to the desktop and laptop. And my conclusion is the following one:

It is not an issue of moving it. Even if I keep it in the same position, after being charging for a while, the message comes: battery drained. shutting down handheld. It is like if it could not charge the battery...

    What do you think?

    Thanks!

Do you have any extra batteries laying around that you could try with the BB?

Re: Errors 411, 507 and then hourglass: I already followed all the instructions

The thing is that I used the battery from the 8100 Pearl and the 7100 worked for a while. But then, same error happened (battery drain) and I know it is not the battery since I inmediately took that one and put it back to the 8100 and t's working properly.

Last night it seemed like the 7100 was about to work (the OS would initialize) and i left it connected to the laptop hoping the battery would charge. However, this morning, it was completely off with the red LED and there is no way to turn it on or to connect it to the computer. When I try to do so, the USB goes crazing detecting a new hardware connected, then it gets disconnected, connected again, and so on.

Therefore, I find the need to follow again the 13 steps described for not-detected devices, once I do that, it won't work, so I'll have to do the upgrading process and then I believe I'll get stuck in the same point.

    Any suggestions?

I won't try anything on my own this time, sine I've gone through this process several times. If any of you has any innovative solution, I'll try that.

    Thanks a lot!

Have you tried charging the phone with a wall charger? If your laptop goes to sleep at night it may not be passing power to the phone and I wonder if the battery may indeed be drained.

Otherwise if I read your post correctly when you install the OS you are successful yet this does not correct the problem for more than a few hours, correct?

Re: Errors 411, 507 and then hourglass: I already followed all the instructions

i tried in the wall, and nothing improves. It's like if there were a limit and when I "overcharge" the mobile (means that the battery actually starts to be charged in a minimum, it stops.

the laptop didn't go to sleep, i can confirm that.

i even got the logo of the battery with one line of battery (a minimum charge) but that was all.

It never lasted some hours. It can be on for a while if connected to the laptop. That's all. I cannot even make a phone call. I got to do one yesterday, connected to the desktop, but then again, everythin went wrong...

Well as I posted earlier I fear this is a hardware issue but before we give up I will ask one of the mods to take a look and see if we get any new ideas. If this situation changes post back please.
