Well, lets do this, the easiest way is just to downgrade your OS with another Cingular version OS.

Go here and download the OS that is listed for the 8700 cingular:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E4F82F9F00E7D4

Then, install that OS onto your computer...If the DM isn't recognizing the Berry is connected after you install the OS on the computer, then take the battery out and reconnect, go to options, connection settings, make sure its on USB and click "Detect".

When it does, go back to the main part of DM...Click on Add programs...When you do so, it will recognize that there is an older version and will ask if you want to roll back...Choose yes you do.

The click through until it asks if you want to backup what is on the device...Make sure you click yes and go on from there.

NOW, there may be an issue...I see where you edited a post and said you put in the wrong password 10x? I am not sure, but there is a good chance that it wiped everything off of your device. I am not completely sure though to be honest with you what all gets wiped in the event of a security lock out...

You installed and extracted the new OS correct?

And you are on Cingular right, so you don't have to delete the alx file...

When you go to add programs or whatever, whats it saying?

    smorales01, welcome to PinStack.

I'm pretty sure the Options/Security Options Wipe Handheld command clears the contacts.

To you and N8, Cingular has never posted a later version than 4.1.0.194, That's the only one available. I suggest you try one of the other carriers OS just to try to get the backup.

Try TMO. but you will have to delete the vendor.xml file from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader.

    hope this helps.
