Question 8820: Orphan Missed Call icon

My 8820 went low on memory and deleted my Call Log.
Right before that, I had missed a call.
Now, I'm stuck with a "1 missed call" icon.
Any ideas how to clear this?

I tried rebooting (Alt-Cap-Del) and Hard-reboot (pop battery out) with no success...
People are telling me to reload the RIM OS. How do I do that?

    Thanks!

If I wanted to reload my existing OS level, how would I do that?
I've seen many posts about deleting vendor.xml. Will that do it?

Shouldn't I stay with the OS level AT&T supports, or does that not matter?

you do not need to delete the vendor.xml file if it is YOUR carrier OS

    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E4F82F9F00E7D4

use that download link. from the drop down menu choose 8820. i believe that to be the current OS you have on your device right now (the digits match)

you won't need to delete the vendor.xml file, just install and load

its really your choice. its an awesome feature to be able to buy a mobile phone that can update the operating system (very similar to updates on PC) with new or updated features.

if you choose to install a different carrier OS, then yes, you will need to delete the vendor.xml file

Re: 8820: Orphan Missed Call icon

Thanks for both posts above (or below, depending on your pref)!

I guess this is a silly newbie question, but how to I reload the OS?
I have the EXE file on my PC, but how do I tell the BB to reload it? It's already there...???

Re: 8820: Orphan Missed Call icon

double click the exe file to install it to your PC (this invokes an installation wizard)
run thru the steps and click finish or ok

++ if you choose the att OS, then plug bb in to usb after and launch DM and run application loader wizard to install missing components.

++ if you choose to install the upgrade, after the installation do not choose to launch DM. instead, close the wizard, go here to delete the vendor.xml file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader and then open DM and double click application loader (if not prompted to upgrade your OS, go back and make sure you deleted the vendor.xml file)

That's the part that confuses me.
If I re-execute the PC program, then run DM, it should not notice anything new, therefore do nothing...??? Right?

Did you download the same OS as was on your machine or a newer / different version? Have you installed it on your PC?

When I got the 8820, back in October, I downloaded the newer code onto my PC and followed the process recomended, it worked and was downloaded to the BB.

Not re-installed. I don't think it would do anything, would it?

Thumbs up Re: 8820: Orphan Missed Call icon

After spending all afternnon trying to restore DBs (via DM) on my own, last night I finally "bit the bullet" and called AT&T. They picked up very quickly and the support person was very good. She tried many things I didn't think of (using DM to clear a few DBs), sending a reset from their server (with my phone off and battery out), etc. When they finally gave up, they suggested I do a Master Reset (wipe handheld). I was not ready to give up yet, so I asked to be transferred to BlackBerry. BlackBerry support did a few more tricks, without success. This even surprised them (go figure, why is it always me?). Eventually, even RIM gave up and he walked me thru a Wipe.

btw - if you're ever going to do this, it's a good idea to do a backup first.

    I did:
    1. Backup via DM
    2. Wipe (this only took a minute or two, he said if I had encryption on it would have said scrubbing instead of wiping, and scrubbing would have taken hours since it resets every bit). Edit: There was a wipe option that allowed me to not wipe my 3rd Party Apps. I selected that. It was nice, the BB reset back to look like I just got it, but with all my apps there. I had to re-register them all since the system/common area where their keys were stored was wiped, but they were all still there!
    3. He resent my Service Books
    4. Restore only the Calendar and Address DB via DM
I'm still trying to remember all of my settings, but at least the icon is gone
