OK - So after I installed 4.2, my thumbwheel was no longer the default selector. It changed to the middle button, which I just cannot stand. Has anyone else seen this or know how to change it????

Strange, I have not seen that happen on an 8700. You may need to re-install the OS.

As an example, when I want to unlock my phone, I can just press the wheel right now....after 4.2 is installed, I have to press the middle button on the front...

With 4.2 unlocking the phone is the two key process. * then green call button. The buttons should be similar as on my 8300 I just pick it up and *, Green button and unlock the phone.

I've upgraded several 8700c bb's before and never had this issue. Try reverting back to 4.1 and see if the trackwheel works, then try a fresh 4.2 install. Something may have been corrupted in the install?
