    Step 2 will be to remove the Registry entries. I STRONGLY suggest you make a back up copy of your registry first!!!!!

    Warning: The following procedure involves modifying the computer registry. This can cause substantial damage to the Windows operating system. Document and back up the registry entries prior to implementing any changes.

    Now these steps will remove the entries for ALL of the RIM software on your system.
    1. On the computer, click Start > Run.
    2. Type regedit and click OK. The Registry Editor opens.
    3. Delete the Research In Motion and Puma Technology keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\, if present.
    4. Delete the Research In Motion and Puma Technology keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\, if present.
    5. If BlackBerry Desktop Software remains listed on the Add/Remove Programs list, remove the BlackBerry Desktop Software registry key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall.

      Note: Two registry keys may exist at this location. An alphabetical list starts at the bottom of the {<number>} entries. The BlackBerry registry keys appear as follows:

      1. {<number>}
      2. BlackBerry {<number>}

      To determine which {<number>} key to remove, click on each one until the display name on the right side of the window displays BlackBerry Desktop Software.
    6. Close the Registry Editor.

    Step 3 - We need to remove all of the Research in Motion Folders.

    1. Open Windows Explorer.
    2. Browse to C:\Program Files\. Delete the Research In Motion folder, if present.
    3. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\. Delete the Research In Motion, Pumatech Shared, and Pumatech Desktop Setup folders, if present.
    4. In C:\Program Files\Common Files\, rename the InstallShield folder to InstallShield_Old.
    5. Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\. Delete the Research In Motion and BlackBerry Desktop folders, if present.

      Note: If you are unable to see the Application Data folder, it may be a hidden system folder. Let me know if you need instructions on how to display hidden files and folders.

    Still with me? Good. Step 4 is to register the atl.dll file

    1. Click Start > Run.
    2. In the Run window, type regsvr32 atl.dll and click OK. A message indicates that the registration was successful.
    NOW Restart the computer.

    You are now ready to reinstall your desktop manager (download links are in my signature) and your Device Operating System.

    Yea, I've seen that the support turned off for the 8800 does work too. I KNOW it works for the 8320 because I've done it. I've reformatted the card under the new OS. It just doesn't work. I think it may just be the 8320 that's having issues. I called T-MO and they don't even have a possible known date. But, a RIM tech rep says it's already been released.

    Yes, Control Panel , Folder Options, View tab.

    Select Show Hidden Files and Folders.

    Afterwards you may wish to return this setting.

    Ok in step 2 and the Blackberry Device software v4.5.0 for the blackberry smart phone 8320 still appears in add/remove.

    Can't find step 5.

    5. If BlackBerry Desktop Software remains listed on the Add/Remove Programs list, remove the BlackBerry Desktop Software registry key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall.

    Nothing says uninstall after opening the folder CurrentVersion!

    EDIT: BTW - I have 2 that says "Blackberry Device software v4.5.0 for the blackberry smart phone 8320" in the add/remove.

    Does anyone have an 8320? If so, when you updated to 4.5 do you have any rebooting issues? If son how did you solve them? Help would be appreciated. And, I DON'T want to keep my Media Card Support turned off in order to have the functionality of my BB under the new OS.

    Check your path carefully - it should be there.

    The biggest issues with .37 seem to be on the 8320... I also have an 8310 and I am seeing no issues what so ever with .37

    Ok I found the folder, but can't find the key that belongs to the Blackberry Device Software. I checked it 3 times!!!

    EDIT: Gary, I'm stepping out for a bit. Hope to see you on when I get back.
