| Re: No Data Plan Q. What is the cost for Picture & Video Messaging? A. You are charged $0.25 for each message you send and receive unless you are on a Messaging package or a MEdia™ bundle. When a single message is sent to multiple recipients, the sender is charged one message for each recipient and each recipient is charged for the message received. Picture & Video messages over 300KBs will be billed additional charges. Found this on their website just now under the FAQ's for Picture Messaging. Zo |

The store tells me now that I'm not getting charged the $.25 for each message because i have the unlimited messaging plan. But they say I'm getting charged 1 cent per kilo no matter how big the picture is. (250 Kb picture = $2.50 charge) They said quote: "yes, you can send the picture for free. But there is also data that goes along with that picture. You get charged internet usage for that data." In other words, They say in order for me to get unlimited pictures, I need to have unlimited internet in addition to the unlimited multimedia messaging plan i have now. Now if what the store is telling me is true, this is a huge case of false advertising. I asked them if there is ANY documentation of that fee available to consumers, they said "No, it is only by knowlege." Therefore, the employees are the only ones who know about it. I actually got in an argument with the store manager about this. They said i could call cust serv and they could credit part of it back because i was "anaware and confused." I was not confused though. I know exactly what my plan includes: it includes "unlimited picture messaging." When I called cust serv, the lady said she wouldnt be able to see the charges until the end of the month, when my bill came. But she agreed with me that i should not be charged for them. She said "if the data charges match up with the same times and dates as the messages, you call us back right away." The bill should come in the next couple of weeks. I found a couple of other people on different forumns who was also told about these fees when they signed up. They never told me three weeks ago when i added the unlimited messaging plan. I already talked to a lawyer about it, because i was sending dozens of messages a day. (I was really excited when i got my new phone last month.) I'm using 200kb pictures. I may have a couple hundred dollar bill, if these charges are true. Anyways, he said he would help me out if i am being charged. There's no way I'm paying a penny. Like i thought, he said they could not charge me. The thing is, i would have had a few hundred dollars charged to my account. apparently, there are many class action lawsuits concerning unethical cell phone charges so i wouldnt be alone. But weirdly, the three store associates and manager at the retail store were somehow misinformed of their products they sell. |

Ok people. Here is what I do: I have AT&T. I have a 8310 curve. I had to tell them I have a "different, non-blackberry phone" so that I could get the MediaNet plan (because it wasn't an option for me when they had the BlackBerry as my phone). Once they updated my info to think I had a RAZR (you will need an IMEI to change the phone with them) I was able to add the unlimited MediaNet package. Here are some details I've found out (through experience and also through research). #1 - Unlimited messaging will charge you for pictures if you don't have a data plan. Not for the small pictures (like smileys and all that) but for like... real pictures. I suggest you get the medianet plan. I pay $15/month for mine. #2 - MMS will not work without the service books. There are a few options for this... you can install a new OS (as explained in the post "I Have Finally Resolved The Mms Problem With The Unlocked 8320 For At&t!" on Blackberryforums dot com - sorry can't link) or you can sign up for the BIS plan, get the servicebooks on your phone, then do what I said earlier (about changing the phone with AT&T, then getting the MediaNet plan...)... I'm not aware of any other ways to do it... I'm currently looking for a way to get the servicebooks without signing up for the BIS/BES or the OS change. #3 - I cannot do certain BB things... no BB email, no GoogleTalk, no Facebook app, and a few others... to get around this I do Funambol for my "push email" and to sync all my contact, calendar, tasks, and notes information... I do Nimbuzz for my instant messaging, and I do google maps with my GPS... I use the normal medianet browser (you can get opera but I don't like it...). With this, you won't get "all" of the cool features of the BIS plan (I do miss my emails looking like neat little text messages and getting a picture icon that said I had a new email, and just the flawless interactivity that BB email has... but to me it's worth the $15/month that I save!). #4 - I have been doing this for a few months now. They do not charge extra. I'm not breaking any laws. There is nothing "illegal" about it. It's my phone, I pay for my unlimited data and my unlimited texting. I just don't pay for the BIS stuff that I don't want/need. Hope that helps someone! Amazing how people will talk like they are experts and say something can't be done, when I'm doing the very things they are saying cannot be done. Do your research people. You're not alone... people just don't know what they're talking about. AT&T reps told me that if I signed up for the unlimited messaging plan that I could send all the pics I wanted for free. Wrong! Next bill got charged a ton, so I called them up and told them what the last rep said and they refunded it. I signed up for the medianet plan and haven't had a prob since! |
