I just gave my wife my old Pearl. She has no BB plan, but all she wants is SMS (doesn't even care about pictures). I'm assuming I can just put her SIM in and go since it seems to work just fine for her. Is this specific to MMS, or are SMS not allowed either? We've had it going on 24 hours and had no problem thus far but she hasn't tried MMS. |

Hey guys I just loaded the newest os for the 8100........v4.2.1.109 and checked for service books when i was done and there were none! So i did a battery pull like I did with v4.2.1.107 and when my phone reloaded it had the service books there and is able to sent MMS just like it did with the other os.........kinda strange. Sweet though! Is this a fluk or has anyone else tried?? |

A little bit of follow up. I gave my wife my old Pearl and called at&t. They set her up with SMS & MMS with no hassle or complaint. I even told them it was my old BB and asked if that was a problem. They said no. So... long story short, just call them and tell them. Granted, I own the Pearl outright and I do think that makes a difference. You won't get the discounted price without the BB plan. |

OK - so me and my daughter are unable to send MMS or browse the internet on our Pearls without a BIS plan. I see that Partsguy was successful by upgrading to v4.2.1.109. Can someone link me to that new os and guide me through the steps to upgrade? Thanks.

rdflesher, here is where you can find the latest OS: http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com/blog.php?b=86 Let me look a minute to find the guide on upgrading. EDIT: Here is the link on how to upgrade: http://blackberryforums.pinstack.com...lackberry.html Last edited by zjfarmer; 04-05-2008 at 12:25 PM. |

I am a customer service rep for AT&T Wireless. This is a great find. Though one I probably wouldn't recommend to customers, it's useful info nonetheless. Props to you for locating this!

Skaii ? Why wouldn't you suggest "customers" doing this upgrade? I am an ATT customer and just want to have the periodic ability to send a picture, etc. Don't need the $30 plan. Will this "Rogers" upgrade mess up my ATT serviced phone? What about the earlier suggestion of calling the customer service center? Will that work or will I get the run around like I did at the store? |

Weird. My wife can send and receive pictures using the at&t unlimited any kind of message plan. I've sent her pictures and it works just fine. Not sure what the big problem is. Just call them... worked for me?! This won't work if you're trying to purchase a new BB at a contract price. For those, I believe you need the BB plan. |

Did you check if you have the service books? Did you do a battery pull after updating the OS? Do you have the mediaNet browser on your berry?

OMG! This is exactly what I've been needing. I posted on that problem just today, well actually yesterday now. But anyway, thank you SO much. It worked and it's amazing.

For anyone who does not know this.......this little loophole will not work UNLESS you have media net pay per use activated on your at&t account! Hope that helps anyone else having issues!! |
