It shouldn't interrupt service. I heard it was mostly sales reps which should not affect day to day operations.

It will still affect service because AT&T's own tower technicians will be pulled into Mobility stores and AT&T Call Centers for picking up slack. So there will be a unusual longer than normal time to bring operations back up to normal if something does fail.

Well if that's the case, I hope At&T doesn't experience any type of outage while contract negotiations are being handled with CWA.

What are they striking over? More money, better benefits? I'm just curious, why at a time like this, with this economy...anyone would strike?

Im not sure what they're striking over, but i can honestly say i hope they hire a new person to replace every single one on strike. Hopefully att experiences no problems with the network. -ill give credit to the strikers, it takes guts to strike during the current economic times, but still dont think i can support them. ~via smartphone~ |

That's what they said a few years back when Telus went on strike. Except for home hook-ups, there was 0 service interruption. It is amazing how well things run when computers handle 90% of the day to day operation. As far as technical service and sales-reps... Well, if they are good as Telus and Rogers' techs, trained monkeys could replace them and do a better job. |

They should look at what they have right now compared to many others losing their jobs everyday. Might not be the best time to do this, unless they are going to get a bailout like the rest of the businesses in this nation who have done very poorly managing their companies. I'm sure Pres Obama will throw their grievances into the "stimulus" bill and give them what they want. |

Because a company who makes $123 billion last year isn't willing to treat their employees better! UPDATE: Contact: Candice Johnson, CWA Communications, 202-434-1168, cjohnson@cwa-union.org Washington, D.C. – As the contract covering 20,000 workers at AT&T Mobility was set to expire at midnight, the Communications Workers of America said that union and company negotiators remain far apart on critical issues. CWA and Mobility management agreed to "stop the clock" for 24 hours, negotiations will resume later this morning. AT&T Mobility employees will report to work as scheduled for now. "AT&T Mobility employees are a big part of the company's success. They are looking for an equitable agreement that recognizes their part in making AT&T Mobility an industry leader," said CWA Executive Vice President Annie Hill. AT&T, even in these challenging economic times, is a profitable company and should be a leader in maintaining quality jobs. The CWA bargaining team will continue to push for the contract that Mobility employees deserve. In these negotiations, CWA represents 20,000 Mobility workers in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, the mid-West, Mountain States and the West Coast. ~via smartphone~ |
