well...not exactly first, who is it branded for? for tmo, you need to be a tmo customer in good standing before they will give you an unlock code (there are instructions here on pinstack for you when/if you do receive the code)...and if you are already a tmo customer, you really don't *need* to unlock it. if your phone is branded cingular, but you are a tmo customer, you'd have to 1) call cingular and beg/lie (don't recommend that) or 2) pay for unlocking service. does that make sense? |

Yes, Settings > Advanced Options > Sim Card. Type meppd It will then show "Personalization:" and some other stuff under that. Then type mepp2 It will pop up with a box saying "Enter Network MEP code:" On the 8100, key mepp press ALT then press 2. |

Thank you. I tried to unlock the phone and could not complete the last line of the instructions. I could not type mepp only #'s regardless of using the alt key and seeing "num" switch to "ABC". I continued on anyway and when I keyed ALT then 2. I got an error. Now I see 9 left instead of 10. Thank you. |

No, this type of locking refers to a mobile device that will only work on a specifc carriers network. If you unlock it you can use it on any network.

I called up t-mobile yesterday afternoon and requested unlock code. the rep put my request in and told me it should arrive within 7 days. I woke up this morning and a couple hrs into day I recieved the email. They gave me the unlock code and very clear instructions. everything went smoothly. t-mobile only continues to surpass my expectations. Maybe this is 'the norm' and I just was with Verizon too long? either way, I have an unlocked pearl. =0) |

LOL T-Mobile gives out unlock codes whenever you ask. I got mine the other day and I haven't even had my Pearl 90 days but I have been with them for almost 4 years.

Hello Cherrichiodo: I can't remember exactly. It said something like invalid or incorrect code. I followed CoreyS' instructions, further up in this thread but perhaps I did something wrong. However, I am also hearing that others are calling TMO for unlock codes which leads me to believe they are unique numbers given out by the carrier specifically per customer. I really don't think I will need it since I only have a TMO account and one SIM card. When I first looked into it I thought there were other benefits to unlocking the phone other than using it on another network. TMO seems to be everywhere I travel overseas, so far. Thank you. John |

| Re: Unlocking T-Mobile Blackberry Pearl 8100
I got an unlock code from t mobile in the uk. it said remove the sim card and type meppd etc. I just got a totally blank screen and nothing happened. Rang tmobile and they said to try it with the sim card still in. Got the security no. but was not able to to type anything in. Presumably I have now tried more than the 3 times allowed, but when I rang T mobile again they did not seem to know, and just said 'sometimes it doesnt work'. Now I am totally stuck, does anyone have any ideas?
