I got this from our RIM rep... "The apn is a setting for GPRS, there is no need for the setting while is an EVDO network". My best guess would be use whatever setting for APN for the network you are on, while international of course. EDIT: Put these setttings while international... APN: rim.net.gprs APN Username: leave blank APN Password: leave blank Put these settings for United States... APN:internet.com APN Username: leave blank APN Password: leave blank Please let me know if they work as I have no issues, and if they work we will add these to the large list of apn settings on pinstack. thanks cp6169. I tried those to no avail. I went ahead and did a wipe. Now everything works perfectly fine. Very weird, must have been some other setting or who knows what. I dont know how this was caused but if you have similar errors try performing a wipe on the handheld. I was able to restore all my contacts and notes from backup :-). It is SOO nice to have my net apps all working again!

Hmmm... Just how does one perform a wipe of the device? I am having all of the same problems with network apps not working. Thanks! |

WOW... wiping the device fixed it. Even the SSH client works. Thanks a ton to N8DBB, csid and cp6169!!!! I've just got a teensy bit of tweaking to restore a couple of settings I lost in the wipe. All of the biggies were handled by the backup/restore. Thanks again! |

Hey cp... Do you think it would be worth it to put a section about APN only being for GSM in the large list? That might help prevent some wild goose chases in the future.

BTW - Just for grins, I did a full restore of my BB and the problem came back so it's stored in one of the databases.

RATS - Wouldn't you know it - now that I have my network issues solved, it appears you can no longer download AIM for BB from the Sprint link. Anyone have an alternate location for that? Also - anyone have any idea what database the rogue network setting could be in? Thanks! |

Have you tried www.blackberry.com/aim? Have you tried the "aim bookmark" in your browser? Have you tried www.blackberry.com/instantmessaging/aim? |

Also try this... cinet.spcs for apn, leave username and password blank. I received this from a great BB tech here on Pinstack. |

| Re: TCP, APN etc. for Sprint I got this same info from Sprint today, but it didn't help me. Wiping the BB, however, did the trick. I am running smooth now. Thanks, everyone for the tips.

| Re: TCP, APN etc. for Sprint The phone should be programmed, out of the box, to use this APN when on GPRS. You will need to use it when trying to get Dialup Networking working outside the US if you are not using the Sprint dialer.

I have a BB 8830 world edition and I am fighting this same issue with sprint . No one it Teir 1,2,or3 tech support , Blackberry and blackberry Advanced Support, or Buisness blackberry support can help me with. ( one woman even tried to google and answer since she had no internal documentation to "support 3rd party app issues") I am at the point now where my only option is to fight with remediation to not charge me a fee when I cancel my contract. (Remediation is sprints version of don't drop us as a provider, lets try to remedy this situation, NOT). Five other users at my office have either the same phone or the Perl. they have had none of the issues I have had when installing/using the same apps. There is one slight difference...they use Verizon or ATT ( more about these 2 vendors later) If you notice Sprint has AOL-AIM and other ,Free to the rest of the world apps , that you can purchase from their online store. When you install one of these applications they also add a service book ( settings->advanced options-> servicebooks) with the proper WAP IP to tunnel that app through their proxy ( you can open the service book to see the Wap IP and port settings)(newbi note: if there is a colon after an IP address folowed by numbers, the numbers following the colon are the "port") . When I install 3rd party applications such as OperaMini MidiSSH FeildForce etc I get all the same errors listed above and there is nothing in the service book to match these installs ( maybe because sprint didn't get their cut?). With FieldForce ( client for SugarCRM) I have the ability to set the Wap . I have tried to cut and past the other service book settings into the config in hopes to bypass the block, it doesn't work. I have seen and tried all the mentioned APN settings, they also don't work I have yet to figure out if the Host Routing table can help here since every entry is identical to each other. it is also the same as the Sercvice books WAP IP's that are listed ( I did think the same thing about the service book originally since it sounds logical that my apps cant find a host to route through) . Sprint says to go into there internet explorer-> go to options-> and check every box. I have even go so far as to try all of the " browser emulation" options. I have come to the conclusion that Sprint is blocking all 3rd party applications on purpose . Maybe they just want to charge you for sh*t that should be free, or they thought it would be fun to piss me off and waste hours of my time. So now that my only options are to change vendors I did a little research. AT&T CON: says they run about 300mgbs for their internet access bandwith PRO: They will however be able to use your current phone if you get it unlocked. (go to the Sprint store and tell them you are being deployed to some third world country that does not support sprint ,and that you need to use a local providers sim card while you are there ... I have personally used this in actual situations where an employee was going overseas.) Verizon Pro: says they run anywhere between 700mgbs to 1.2gigs depending on the area and your coverage. Con: they do not use sim cards in their phone so that no phone other than their own can be brought onto your network ( verizon get their cut another way ). you now own a 400$ blackberry paperweight. that you can hopefully get half your money back by selling it on craigslist. Hope this helps |

I can imagine the frustration and contempt against Sprint, but your complaint is akin to driving a new car back to the dealer to get your money back because the aftermarket stuff you're interested in doesn't fit or work well. I have Sprint, the 8830 and I have no problems using some of the programs you mention. I have never needed an APN or TCP setting. Try uninstalling the app and reinstalling doing a device reset right after each. What else, verizon has the same network speeds sprint has (same CDMA technology) and it is well known they do limit access as of right now to some features that their phones otherwise have for the sake of network security, but charge you for their version, much more than anyone else. Your 8830 uses a SIM just like the one on verizon, but it's just to access the GSM networks outside the US, unlocked or not it will not work with ATT, T-mob or any US GSM frequency. Hahaha, I don't know if your post was just meant to be a flame or not, but it's so full of innacuracies, Sprint has it's problems but this is just too funny. |
