Re: Nextel sim card question

I have recently purchased a Blackberry 7510 on ebay. I am currently using a Nextel i265. Would the chip be compatible and if so would functions would I lose(For example my contact numbers)? Although off topic, do all Blackberry 7510's have the usb port and able to upload ringtones/files from my pc?

Re: Nextel sim card question

Hi pags, welcome aboard. The 7510 BB requires a white 32k condor sim card. The i265 takes a yellow 64k falcon sim. The two are not compatible with each other. You can purchase a new sim if your BB didnt come with one.

All BB's have a usb port, however adding ringtone/files from your pc isnt easy. Are you planning on getting a daata plan? If so your life will be much easier.

Any other questions ask.

I was told the same thing, and it turns out they were right. My service worked fine then one day, it started acting screwy and i got a new sim card from the service center and I was fine.

Wouldn't you know, a month later my phone was all messed up and had to get another one.

Make sure you get a blackberry sim!

A BB sim is the same as a regular sim, its the way its provisioned in the system. Service centers will sell and replace an original BB sim with a regular sim everyday. As long as you stay with the same color you will be fine.

Re: Nextel sim card question

newbie question:

Work gave me a new BB 7100i from nextel (yellow sim card)......but a friend just gave me his new BB 8800 (cingular) that he doesn't use anymore. Can I swap out sim cards and make the 8800 work for me as my main phone? Thanks for any help!

Re: Nextel sim card question

Cingular is GMS, Nextel is TDMA (iDEN), the two networks are not compatible.

Re: Nextel sim card question

Hi all,

What we need to remember here is that all of the SIM cards are provisioned by Sprint Nextel; the problem that some of you may experiencing is that if the BB plan is not provisioned on the SIM and you attempt to access the net, you will be trying to access a Nextel WAP deck as opposed to the RIM WAP deck that is pushed to the handset, based on provisioning.

You can switch to Sprint CDMA and get the 8830, which has a few better features than the original 8800 anyways.

Re: Nextel sim card question

The long and short of what's being said, is that the type of sim you need for your blackberry depends on the blackberry you have. Older BB's like the 7520, 7510, etc, use a 32k sim, which is grey and blueish. 7100i's use the same sim that would have been in your i205. If you put the wrong sim in, it just limits some of your capabilities. I used the wrong sim in a 7520 for a while, and it worked fine, except my text messaging didn't work, and I couldn't get my contacts of the sim card.

Re: Nextel sim card question

so.. i have a i730 with the 600 contact yellow card in my phone.. well white on one side and yellow on the other.. but it says 600 contacts on it.

My phone has been acting up.. like shutting off randomly.. i got a different battery and it seems to have fixed it.. but i fear im getting the new phone bug

so I talked to the person at the local nextel place.. they said if i got a new phone i would have to pay to get the phone activated...

my question.. can i just get a new phone and throw my card in it and avoid having to activate the new phone.. and then just keep the old one as a backup?

lol is it possible to clone a card and use two cell phones on the same number? on the same billing? .that would be sweet

Are you referring to the $18 upgrade fee?

Re: Nextel sim card question

In some instances, putting the wrong sim card from a nextel phone into a nextel bb has caused the bb to crash as soon as it boots up causing the OS to be reloaded. I have seen this happen on numerous 7100's (not sure about the 75 series though). So if its recommended for a certain "yellow back", then I would recommend that. Or don't be surprised after it boots up it goes straight to a reset screen/endless reset loop.
