| Letter from Sprint: 2g data to be discontinued
Husband received a letter from Sprint to day advising him that his phone (Palm Pre) will no longer be able to utilize 2G data as they are discontinuing 2G data on Dec. 31, 2009. They are offering one of three replacement phones or $150 rebate towards the purchase of any model in their "robust line of data-capable devices." This is so odd. He wants to keep his phone, but in order to to keep data, he'll have no choice but to do choose one of the above options. Have any other Pre owners received this? What's happening with the Pre? Guess he'll end up with Android after all if he can't use his current phone. |

goldengirl75, According to a Sprint Engineer that I talked to last week, the letter was in referenced to their Circuit Switched Data network elements in the CDMA network. This decom will take place on or about 12/31/2009. This will only affect customers who use CDMA Circuit Switched Data (CSD) aka dial-up data not being able to connect after the decommission. So he states to tell other fellow workers if they received this letter to do the following: In most cases, customers can disregard the letter If it’s determined that you are using circuit switched data, Sprint will contact you regarding alternatives So in your husband's case, his Pre is safe unless he actually utilize dial-up data with his Pre. |
