VZ Navigator - Confirmed for Pearl/8830

I had a meeting yesterday with my VZ rep, as well as their data specialist, and they had given us a demo of VZ Navigator for the Pearl. There will also be a maintenance release (new os) for the 8830 to allow this app to be installed and used.

Thanks for the inof which mot of us new it was coming, any insight as to what the upgraded OS will fix or included?????

Is the rumored date as of 11/8 wil be the update and vznav

Yes, 9.99 per month for unlimited, and there will be a daily rate as well.

So the GPS will be locked to only work with VZ Navigator, and not other "free" apps like Google Maps?

9.99! Thats just BS. I already pay $40 plus for unlimited data and now I would have pay another $10 to use GPS that came with my phone. Sometimes I wish I could bite the bullet and just get AT&T.

I checked the price for the AT&T gps, and its about the same.
the only difference is the price of the data plan.

The cell prices are a little better tho.

I happen to know for a fact Verizon is lowering their data to $30. I believe that this change will take place on Nov.1 but it could be delayed until the release of the Pearl. As I understand it they are "looking to compete in terms of price, and make room for the extra value of VZNav." In other words you'll get to pay a whole $4.99 less a month if you want all the good stuff Verizon has to offer for 8830 and soon the Pearl. Trust me I know the pain of paying $44.99 for my data. And the further pain of having the GPS disabled. And now the insult of having the feature I wanted all along but served to me in monthly $9.99 doses. Just another reason why I wish T-Mobile was a better company in terms of the features I want. ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

9.99 a month is for the fee to VZ navigator. BB maps is still free, but is nowhere near as robust as VZ nav. the 10 bucks a month is well worth the service they provide.

still verizon is taking the gps and making you pay for their vz nav service. you shouldnt have to pay to use bbmaps and other applications that are 'free'. i can see paying $10 for their nav features, but for something that has nothing to do with them is BS. anything to make a dollar i guess.

Spoke to my rep again yesterday, as well as the director of data support for the northeast. The GPS will be fully unlocked. VZ Nav will be offered as a much more robust LBS service for a fee, but you can of course use bb maps or google maps for free. VZ Nav was a very nice app. We received a demo of it.
