On your PC, go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader. You should see an executable called Loader. Connect your device, then double click on the Loader executable and see what happens.
this didn't work for me either, I still couldn't find the OS.

So if you open your Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs (Programs and Features if you're running Vista), do you see anything that says BlackBerry Device Software 4.5?

Is there more than one 4.5 in add/remove? If so uninstall all but the one you are wanting to install.

I noticed you said you had 4 error messages when you installed DM. Here is my suggestion. Uninstall DM and the OS from your PC. Go to c/program files/common files and delete the research in motion folder. Reboot your PC and then reinstall both DM and the OS (remember to delete vendor.xml). Reboot again the connect your Device and go into the folder mentioned before and try the loader.exe again.

ARGH! Very frustrated here - I've tried every option listed here and still unable to get my OS upgraded on my 8100. I download, install, deleted vendor.xml, tried using Desktop Manager, tried using loader.exe - still stuck with old OS! Any suggestions/ideas would be great appreciated!

    Thanks!

    E1004,

Can you advise the OS version you are trying to install, and where you got it? Does it show up as installed on your PC under Control Panel, Add Remove programs?

I'm attempting to install 4.5.0 which I got from BlackBerry.com. It is showing up under Control Panel.

And the OS you installed is for your device, correct? In other words, you didn't download the OS for an 8110 or something?

That's correct - I downloaded the 8100 OS. I just confirmed that again (always good to check twice!) and in Control Panel it shows "BlackBerry Device Software v4.5.0 for the BlackBerry 8100 smartphone"

Ok, lets try this. Remove the OS you installed from your PC using the control panel. Then download 4.5.0.139 from this link:

See if this works any better. (let me know if you have trouble with the link)
