    Cheers
OK so I've decided I'm going to destroy every bit of data in that thing and start completely afresh. I've downloaded the OS and I have the BBSAK open and so is the desktop software.

Does someone have a list of procedure for this please? Or is it as straightforward as it looks?

    Thanks.

It is pretty straightforward, but here ya go anyway:

    1. Connect your device to the PC.
    2. Launch BBSAK. Will probably ask you for a password. If you don't have one, just click OK.
    3. Choose the "Wipe Device" option.
    4. Wait for BBSAK to inform you it's finished. Your device will reboot and you'll be left with a white screen and an error 507, which means the wipe was successful.
    5. On your PC, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader.
    6. If the OS is from your carrier you can skip this step, otherwise delete the file at the bottom called "vendor."
    7. Make sure your device is connected to the PC.
    8. In that same folder as above, you'll see an executable (4th or 5th item from the top) called Loader. Should have a little phone icon. Double click on that, which should start loading your OS.
    9. Let the loader do its thing and you should be good to go from there!

    MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY!!
I've wiped the OS off of it, got the dreaded white screen, went to load the OS and it's constantly popping an error saying the desktop manager is running and I need to close it to continue. I have closed it and I've also made sure of it through task manager!!

It's constantly popping that error and will not go any further!
Also, I haven't found the OS File through the path you gave me (the C:/ Program files etc...)

Are you running 32 bit or 64 bit Windows?

    If it's 64 bit, go here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

If it's not there, you don't have the OS installed on your PC. You can check by going into the Control Panel and looking for BlackBerry Device Software V6.xxx or something like that in the Programs and Features section.

Ok did it and back to square 1.
the original issue remains: every so often, all the keys stop responding (including the trackpad pushbutton, but the screen and trackpoint respond).

Anyways, once again a huge thanks for all your help, patience and dedication Rog!

I've run out of ideas about what to do for now, but if you know of any other ideas please do tell me.

If you're in Malta, I owe you a beer,
    cheers,
    Kyle.

Well, it's sounding like a hardware problem to me now.

I'll be right over for that beer.
