A wipe isn't neccessary most of the time. Just flash on the zip.

If I wanted to update to 4.0.4 I just rename it update.zip or something? Then flash it?

I'm having trouble getting 4.0.4 on my friend's g1. Is there something different with doing it on a mac? I noticed it renames the folder and stuff. When I try to apply the zip it says it's not signed. Pls help!

Can use cm updater to do it from the phone itself. Or go to the xda site to get the signed copy

Dont make the mistake of adding the .zip on there. Just rename it update! Make sure you have the signed file like disturkis4u said.

Yeah that's the one I downloaded. The problem is when mac osx downloads a zip file, it automatically unzips when it's done. Then for some reason the phone says it's not signed when I recompress it to a zip file and put it into the sd.

Go to your home screen, settings, applications, and make sure the box is checked to accept apps from unknown sources. This allows non market apps to be installed. See if that helps.

You can try to do it without the mac, & DL and rename it on the phone. Mac makes some things harder.

Oh and move the file to the root/main menu of your sd card. You need a app that can move and edit files. There are many free ones on the market. Im using Androzip at the moment.
