Tales of BB addicts ordering G1s...

So as some of you already know, Sirthinks and I both ordered G1s yesterday because we had an itch to play with the Android plateform.
We placed our orders through www.sntradersonline.com and while talking to them over the phone was quite unpleasant, they did a great job at shipping the phones overnight and no more than 15hours after my order there I was setting up my G1
So far I am really liking Android. Its a really impressive OS and I don't have any complains about it so far.
The device itself is not bad but definitely not up to my usual standards (iPhone, Storm etc...)
While I say that, I have to give props to HTC for building a really robust phone with an amazing build quality and a more than decent keyboard.

RIM is really letting me down lately so I decided to see where the grass is greener. However I'm still BB for life.

Will report back as I discover more about the device/plateform.
How about you Sirthinks what are you saying ?

Ps: if people are wondering how I got money for this after what happened 2-3 weeks ago, I just remembered that a friend overseas owed me some money that he wired me back. So for those wondering I can gladly say I am back on my feet and financially stable again.

Can't wait to hear your review. Got a few seconds to play with a G1 last month, but didn't really didn't give it too much thought.

I wonder if Android will support the BlackBerry Application suite in the future.

They just might ... 2009 is the year of Android and they are an Open Source plateform after all. It will help go over the limitations WinMo brought againt the BAS (no phone calls directly from BAS etc...)

Glad you're liking it Ranx. It is taking me some time to get used to the keyboard.

    More later.

Can't wait for a review. I have been thinking of selling my Nascar collection and expanding my Smartphone knowledge as well.

The question is, have you hacked it yet? That's when the phone becomes amazing...

I hear what you're saying. But I must say lol. The grass is greener on this side of the fence so far ... now if only we could get a pro looking android device as sirthinks puts it so well.

Let's not forget our good friend and stacker, thechadj, also made the jump to the G1. He is being aweful quiet. Methinks he is going to let Ranx and me take all the heat.... LoL

I wouldn't exactly say it is greener. Each field has cow patties. Like I said, I love the OS, but the hardware leaves a lot to be desired. The HTC Touch Pro running Android would be AWESOME!

It would also be nice if all of Google's own apps would run on the G1. It is pretty bad when some of the best Google apps run on BB's and iPhones, but not on Google's own OS.

Which apps are you talking about ?

I have read on your twitter that you cannot get Latitude to work, its included in RC33, just launch maps and press menu, join Latitude.

What other apps were you referring to ?

And when I meant the grass is greener i was talking OS-wise. As far as physical device the G1 is definitely not all that.
