    Maybe Gonna Switch??

Currently on T-Mobile with a Blackberry 8900, would like to switch to either the new upcoming Android phone or the iPhone.

The difference for me is available apps.

Obviously the iPhone has a LOT of apps, not so sure about the Android platform. I do like Open Source being a long time Linux user and fan. Does the Android Market available on the Android phone have more apps than the Android Market online, see this link?

If not is there another good source for Android apps?

It's probably not a good idea to switch for the app markets alone. There are many other factors such as price and carrier to consider. I think what may be a good idea is to see what particular apps you NEED on both phones and see what's available as well as what apps you'd want to have. Pricing is also important. There are a ton of android apps for free and I have not really had any problems needing an app that wasn't available.

I also had good success with the Android Market, and found there were plenty of apps available for my needs. You, as a Linux user, I think would really like the Android platform. I went back and forth from 8900 to G1 a few times but missed the BBM and the great way that Blackberry handles email. G1 was great with gmail....only so-so with other accounts I had integrated. Also it does not appear that UMA will be available in the myTouch

No UMA on the mytouch but the much improved battery life and processor are great, as well as the design and packaging. No physical keyboard though so the tradeoff is one you have to consider. Great customization options and the addition of SHERPA and GENIE are added bonuses.

Does anyone have any comments on the Magic. Since the myTouch is almost identical. I'm a BB addict but would LOVE to have 3G on TMO. I'm getting tired of waiting for a 3G BB on TMO.

I've been using the mytouch for a few weeks now...its pretty good. Way better than the g1. Not a big fan of the virtual keyboard though..apple's works better. Good battery life as well. I REALLY like the trackball on it. Smooth and much bigger than standard g1/bb trackballs. It has a good size/feel to it.

I am switching to Android too..Blackberry is in my blood...but goodness im bored! Same ole phones and OS, they dont make it exciting anymore, anyway...MyTouch, in merlot byt the way, is on its way. I to also want to play with some nice apps that may not be available on the bb. Could someone clear up some termonology though? Cupcake? Dougnut...sounds fattening!, but delicious! lol. What are some real high lights to the Android? Honest opinions are very welcome. I could go look this up but im sure im not the only one who wants/will want to know this....thanks in advance!

Cupcake was the tmo official update for the G1. Donut is the new tmo official update for the mytouch.

My advice is to read up and root your device ASAP. The xda-developer forums have all you need to know. Rooting is like jailbreaking so that you get to see the full performance of open source Android at its best. I would flash the Cyanogen CM 4.0.2 rom and never look back. Rooting gives you full autopilot auto rotation abilities, multi-touch zoom browsing, advanced cpu to 528mhz from stock 384, ability to install apps2sd program(i have 100+ apps running on my sd card, swap partition on your sd card(virtual memory), access to many apps that only work on rooted phone), and the list goes on.

If you install the CM 4.0.x series rom, you will get many of the stock tmo Donut features too like camera zoom and exchange email.

The Android os is sweet and it will be a nice break from the BB.

If you are in the States, look on Craigslist maybe. I know you can find G1s. I found a new one for 125.
