Launcher suggestions for an old slow phone ?

Eventually with all Droids they get to a time where they become drooling senior citizens who experience major lagging and lack of smoothness/fluidnes of use and in extreme cases develop Alzheimer's disease (reloading the UI overly/launcher because it forgot that it was already loaded-often happens whenever I exit an application resulting in me having to wait about a minute before I can use my phone again) Then there's the faliour of not being able to run widgets correctly.

which leads me to the question...what is the best launcher I can download/use for a device suffering from the above symptoms, to make it "bearable" to use again ?

Nova is great but not sure if it will revive an alien on it's death bed.

+1 to nova, or apex. Believe both have option to keep in memory.

You could also remove old apps that you no longer use as well as limiting what starts up @ boot.

    Or upgrade.

If not the standard UI of any Droid then there's only Nova. It's fast, you can tweak it. Then I'd go and get rid of all the heavy apps you don't need, those that are eating up your ROM. Make the phone as "lite" as possible and you'll notice the difference.
And Jay, yawn... Yeah! With iOS I'm left with more quality time for other things...

I've tried NOVA...very impressive and very similar to Apex.

I know this randomly came up, but I've seen a good review for ADW launcher...should I consider it or stay away considering the issues I face ?

IMO Nova is the best. They all have their strengths and weaknesses but Nova premium is highly customizable and again, in my opinion, the best.

I use Apex Pro, there is a free version also. I also have Nova Pro as well, either one gives you the opportunity to back up you launcher and is easy to restore and adjust settings

Yes and its lovely, just waiting for my phone to start experiencing issues again so I can test it properly under very poor conditions. (i recently did a factory reset which solves the problem temporarily)

and I'm surprised I'm Saying this but much prefer speed to animations and boy don't let me get started about the pleasure of gestures...unfortunately I can't test this on nova (free) what are the gestures like on the paid version ? (can you open the app drawer and notification bar?)

ADW is not as responsive as Apex or Nova (Nova looks to be the best on that category but neither of these launchers do too bad)I guess the choice to make is device dependant. some apps work better with some devices than others and some devices work better with some apps than others.
