I had two droids and they both ran out of battery in four hours. Had the X and the Incredible.

I've never owned a 'Droid (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night ), so I don't have any personal experience with the device. Say what you will about Apple fanboism, but the iPhone just works. Only reboots I've had to do are related to jailbreaking issues, but out of the box, the thing just plain works.

I may take a close look at the SIII when it comes out since it sounds like a great device, but we'll just have to wait and see what the year brings with regard to the i5 as well.

Its so difficult to say now.
Androids used to have HORRIBLE battery life, some still do.
Our illustrious posters excluded, one thing that gets me are the expectations some have. Some bad life is very real, however I wonder about others.

Running GPS, wifi on (and no wifi anywhere) full screen brightness with weather, news, and social Widgets updating every 10 minutes, umteen unneeded apps running, Bluetooth (cause you look sooo cool with that headset on), and music playing. ....well WHY doesn't it last all day? (Yes, I have seen this happen).

KTW, not implying that this is your case, but you have found one of the caveats of Android. There ate inefficient apps, the OS can be hokey from time to time-won't deny it - and you have to be aware of what is doing what.

System/battery. Check it when you see your battery going nuts. Whatss doing it? The screen will be a big culprit, but what else?

It isn't every android, or every phone. What is your usage like? Is the battery dying and you barely touch it? Or are you torrenting while jamming to James Taylor and updating your Facebook status?

Take a few days and narrow down the "whys" and lets see what can be done.

Beautiful thing about Android. May nlbe a hiccup in the system, but most of the time it is fixable.

I drained my LG myTouch Q to 36% in 4.5 hours yesterday as a test. I had full screen brightness, texted heavily, used IM, sent/received a few emails and sent/recieved 2 calls. I tested my phone the day after I posted this and got 7.5 hours before I got low battery warning messages and the indicator turned yellow (@ 29%).

Undoubtedly. The Note 2 is able to outlast my continuous demands of it as far as battery life is concerned.
But the question we should be asking is: what the heck should you expect from smartphones that have fabulous screens, outstanding performance? If you don´t want or need any of these monstruous specs and rather settle for battery life, the answer you´re looking for is a dumb phone.
If the hat fits (or shoes, or whatever) wear it. Period!
