It's available as a free application. Search the app store on the G1 for 'battery saver". I should be there.

Shouldn't need one. I found that turning off my 3G when not using it, along with keeping the wifi and bluetooth off at all times greatly increases battery life. You can create shortcuts to these functions using the "anycut" application from the market.

I used the G1 for 3 months, I actually preordered the phone. The battery is terrible. You should not have to turn stuff off in order to try to make the phone last 8 hours on. I just went back to a BlackBerry 8320. I have WIFI on all the time, surf at least 3 hours a day, type about 60 emails per day, and I don't have to charge the phone for at least 3 days. Just get rid of the G1 and you won't have to worry about the battery ever again.

I ended up returning mine because of the poor battery life. I was tired of having to charge it 2 or 3 times a day. I went back to my old 8320.

it's been hit or miss, but turning off the extras when not using it definitely is a life saver, still waiting on the final word of the extended battery being shipped out

That is one of the reasons why I sent the G1 back and kept my 8320, I just got my 8900 today so I will try and stay with RIM this time ;-)

But I remember reading an article on Engadge about Tmobile offering a "extended battery" that should replace the battery that comes with the G1. I'm not sure if they were going to send it to all registered G1 owners but I do know they are aware of the horrible battery life.
