has anyone taken a moment to look at the permission an app requires before downloading it ?
some apps like antiviruses request permission to delete memory card contents not to mention reading and editing SMSs.

my question is if there is rally anything to fear about this, I've experienced missing images and believe it is related. how do you stop apps having this much permission, its as if they have remote access to your phone. literally! not to mention consuming my data and giving me big bulls.

as for now keeping a safe distance from google play but still nervous of the apps pre installed on my device. please respond if you know or have an opinion about this issue, its driving me nuts! this is an outrage! I can't even trust my own device!!...bomer

I am a blackberry user (sounds like a drug, s'pose it is in a way), back to the point, for the blackberry you do not provide too many permissions to the App, so it has not really been an issue, however I fully understand your concern. There are lot of Android users on this site who know their way around the OS, so I am sure that somebody will respond shortly.

    "Thou shalt not download apps"
    "Thou shalt not use apps"
"Thou shalt not use smartphones of any kind, including David's"
    "Thou shalt not swear"
"Thou shalt not commit adultery, steal, kill, maim and do all other horrendous things"
"Thou shalt not covet another man's wife or his apps"

Ok thats enough. Jay can write the rest after Bible study.

In other words: do what you want, run the risks, try and get away with it.
Just be careful and get ready to get smitten once in a while.
    You can always:
    1. Confess.
    2. Reset soft and hard.
    3. Reboot.

    Or dont do anything...

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...on.permissions

    Market search "permission denied"

Here are my thoughts regarding permissions. Look at the app and what it does. Then look at the permissions. Do the permissions match up with what the app needs to do? If not then pass on the app.

Lately there have been a bunch of apps using air push to put ads in the notifications. These are annoying as hell if you get them. To avoid READ THE USER REVIEWS. Dont just read the first 3, read a good bit of them. This will also give you input as to the permissions. If the sports has issues, someone will complain in the reviews.

Bottom line is that you need to be proactive not reactive when it comes to permissions. Same with security in general. There are good security apps available that monitor for msleare and also monitor permissions. Snap Secure is a good one as is lookout.

Hope this helps. Sorry if s bit out there. Meds+typing=confusion sometimes.

Me? No. Now I have a brother-in-law that will text me often concerned about permissions.

To date he hasn't had any issues following the same advice I've given here.

perhaps there are apps that can disable internet access for specific apps so that I don't have to worry about internet charges.

I tried contacting htc but they just said that they don't test 3rd party apps and that using them is at my own discretion (WOW!!...HOW USEFUL, I NEVER KNEW THAT!!...THANKS HTC THAT REALLY REALLY HELPS!!!!!!!!)

    Hoenstly I wouldn't be concerned.
Use the advice I gave you and avoid the softcore porn apps you should be fine.

I can't tell you how many apps I download a month, most from market, some as beta from xda. Never had an issue.

No offense. Just joking. Bayern did well last night. They beat Marseille away 2-0. Finals, maybe? With Barcelona?
