no. device manager and desktop manager are two different things. device manager is what allows your computer to recognize the bb and mount the microSD card as a drive when you have your bb set to mass media mode. it's in your start menu. take a peek.

that is odd. i have never experienced any kind of data loss on a defrag. which defrag program did you use? give me the details of your situation and i'll see what i can figure out for ya

Thanks, i got it fixed, i had to re-format the card. I had to stop the defrag early, then was able to complete the entire thing later. I believe thats what messed it up...

it is never a good idea to interrupt a defrag. that's like interrupting an os update

    Re: Wow! Defragmenting does help!

Just so everyone is aware, defregging does a ton of reads / writes to the memory card. While that's not necessarly a huge deal, this is flash memory and therefore, it's lifespan is dictated by the number of writes made to the device.

I'm not saying not to defrag, but the way flash memory works, it may not be the best idea... especially if you have a lot of smaller files.

Just wanted to point this out...

Copying all the data off the card, reformatting the card and copying it all back will do the same thing but use a lot less write cycles.
    As always, just my opinion...

is it really working or just a defragment of our imagination? hehe

i wondered the same about the placebo effect when i first did it. i don't think anyone will notice any difference with smaller quick-access media files, such as mp3s and the such. i watch movies and television shows on my pearl, and it is when i rewind or cue them that i do notice less hessitation.
