glad it helped you out.. the first time i did it, i thought "eh, placebo effect... my mind must be playing tricks on me" ... but after some use it became apparent that this really did help things quite a bit. i wouldn't have posted it if i didn't see true benefit

if you have mass media enabled and the pearl connected to your computer with the bb device manager running (the device manager is what makes your computer recognize the bb), then your microSD card should be mapped to a drive on your machine. (on my desktop, i have it mapped to the P: drive -- p for pearl). windows recognizes the removable device and you'll see it in "my computer."

simply defragment the "pearl drive" the same way you'd defragment your hard drive.

I have tested this on folders of pics, gifs, vids and open them all with ease and speed.
It doesn't speed up the day and a half it takes to open my music folder though.

Overall : excellant tip that totally rocks

    Re: wow, defragmenting does help

I tried this about a month ago, using Diskeeper 10 Pro. I saw that the SD card on the BB was showing as a drive so I did it for the heck of it, but noticed no difference. Since I usually don't defragment my PC's HD manually (I have it scheduled nightly), I thought no more about it till reading this post.

So, I fired up DK and ... oh my... I suddenly realize that I had just a few ringtones, pictures and things on my SD card a month ago; and now there are a couple dozen mp3's, 4 full length movies, etc. on it and it's taking a while to defrag. But I'm sure that this time I will notice the benefit. Thanks!

    Hey anfrey

I am gonna have to try this when I get home. My 2 gig card is almost full and I almost hate opening up files on my BB cause it takes forever. Good tip

I wonder why this would work. On a hard drive it is actually moving bits of information around on the disk inside so that the files are grouped together on a disk so that the lever arm (or what ever it is called) does not have to actually move as much. But in an SD card, there are no moving parts. I am not doubting you, I just wonder how it works.~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~

Thanks, that was my problem. I thought the mass storage mode was on but it wasn't.
