Not my own planning but something off bbforums incase anyone needs it 0) Connect BB to computer 1) Perform a selective backup with Desktop Manager, saving only Content Space from your real Blackberry, then disconnect 2) Download/Install the Blackberry JDE 3) Start the MDS Simulator 4) Start the BB Simulator (probably best to choose your specific model) 5) Simulate a USB connection 6) Restore the back up from 1) to the simulated BB 7) Surf to the web site that has your ringtone in the BB Browser on the simulation then save it 8) Perform a selective backup with Desktop Manager, saving only Content Space from the simulated BB 9) Disconnect/Close the simulated BB 10) Connect your real BB 11) Use Desktop Manager to perform a selected restore of the saved Content Space from 8) 12) Go to Profiles>Show Tone and find your new content! Also works for pictures Anyone looking to upload any tones Iv made somewhere where they can be uploaded and downloaded from directly to blackberry under Bb browser. Without it moaning about an invalid file type. http://huenik.com/blackberry/ Last edited by Gina; 04-19-2006 at 01:28 PM. |

| Re: Ring Tones and Pictures without a Data Plan
disclaimer: I am not 100% sure the following method works, as I do not pay for my own data plan. Also, in the rare case that you are connected to a BES, but are wanting to minimize your data usage, you can send/receive data without using up your data plan: * connect your BB to your desktop using USB or Bluetooth * make sure Desktop Manager is running Now, when you send/receive data, it is all done using your LAN's internet connection. You'll notice that the send/receive arrows at the top right of your BB don't activate when transmitting in this mode. This is useful if you're planning on downloading a large file onto your BB and are on a limited data plan. |

Ok, iv put browser on but ther is no way of getting into it without a dataplan, so i cant test it though usb. But i did think someone could tryconnecting to pages through usb with the radio turned off. The other option, once i get time to finish it, is backing up the content space and opening the backup file in a small app that im working on and draging and droping files onto it then restoring the backup file to the Bb. Think i might just endup with a dataplan at Ł12.50 ($22) for 2gb of data per month tho. lol |

| Re: Ring Tones and Pictures without a Data Plan
Took me a bit to get my head around how to do this. BUT IT WORKS!!!! I'm using a 7100t without any data plan. The BlackBerry_JDE_4.1.0.exe has a tool called MDS. This allows the simulators from BlackBerry_Simulators_4.1.0.316.exe to go out you PC's internet connection. Your then exchanging backup and restore files from the simulator to your Blackberry.

| Re: Ring Tones and Pictures without a Data Plan
This really works great. Should be in the FAQ section. Goodwork. For those of you who use 8700g use the 8700r simulator since you are only restoring the content store you shouldn't have a problem getting what you want onto your blackberry.
