    hi guys,
i was thinking of getting a 7100 to replace my 7520...
what do you guys think ?

does the 7100 have features that the 7520 does not ?
it looks a little smaller, maybe easier to hold ?

Hey Kevin, I've had both of the phones. There are two things I never got used to moving to the 7100i, the smaller, narrower display, and SureType. No knock on either, I just didn't care for them. The 7100i has more memory, but i don't recall anything else that really makes it stand out. Both have Blue Tooth and GPS.

If you're not dependent on PTT, perhaps you'd consider moving to the Sprint 8703e or the 8830. The data rate on the Sprint side of the house is much faster. The 8830 supports SD Mini Media. I primarily use it to carry files, not for media, so I don't need to make sure I've got my USB thumb drive with me whenever I travel.

if you cant get to the new generation of Blackberries (Stuck in Next-Hell), Defiantly upgrade (Unless you are opposed to the sure type keyboard...

I upgraded to the 7100i when it was released by Nextel, and have loved it. (I am falling out of love with it, as i crave a Curve or Pearl 2)

Goggle Maps with Traffic is great.. I use the Traffic view every day. Blackberry Maps allows you to use GPS, another cool option.

    Call quality is excellent.

Its a LOT easier to hold, and doesn't give you carpel tunnel syndrome from making a 10 minute call.

My-Cast Weather is Awesome!! (Extra charge for use, but worth it to me,,, ) it sends you sms messages warning of Lightning Strikes in your area {Lightning 5.7 Miles North} along with Weather alerts. I had advanced warning last week of Tornadic activity approaching the Chicago area.

7100i Rocked when it was new to the market, I only want newer technology now that i have had the 7100i for 2 years now.

I will gladly add the 7100i to my Blackberry Trophy Case when i Retire it!!!

    Hope this Helps

    thanks guys...
yes, i am dependent on the walkie talkie feature.., otherwise, i would get off of nextel altogether..
    too damn expensive.

hey guys, since you both seem familiar with the 7250, i have nextel's data plan and all that proper stuff for the 7250, but, do i have text messaging ?

if so, where is it ?

    thanks,
    kevin

An easy way to get around is just to email the 10 digit phone number and add "@teleflip.com" to the end: 9876543210@teleflip.com

i was comparing the two phones on: www.phonescoop.com
the 7100i and the 7520, and the 7100i does not have a headphone jack..
so, how do you use a headphone set with it ?

Hi Kevin! I would think that if you use your handheld primarily as a phone, you would be very happy with a 7100. The 71xx series is designed for heavy phone users -- smaller design, more dominant numeric keys, etc. However, if your emphasis is data, emails, etc. then something like the 8700 or newer, a device without the suretype, would be more appropriate -- or even keeping your 7520. I like my 7105t, but I'm a phone/PIM only user (no data). I think that if I had a data plan I would be happier with a full-on QWERTY model.

Also, I think all 7100 devices have headset jacks -- phonscoop may be mistaken. My 7100t and my 7105t both have jacks --

I have had my 7520 for almost 2 years now and am ready to upgrade but I am not too savy with making the right choices when it comes to cell phones. I would love some suggestions . I have to have a Blackberry and plan to stay with Sprint.
    Thanks for your comments!
