I actually wish that the current line of Berries had the daylight adjusted screen so they could be used in the sun like the 72xx series. Am I the only one that finds that missing?

The 7290 is still one of the best selling devices in my store. Due partly to it's low price point, but also because it still does all the things that an 8700 does. If you're looking for a solid device that does email, phone, PIM and web, it's great. If you need camera, mp3, gps, EDGE, expandable memory, then it's not the device for you.

This is an excellent post. Although there are some differences, BBs are nearly identical in many of the most important ways. Except for the shape of the unit and the type of screen (and some other minor bells, like Sure (true?) Type), my 2 6230s, 2 7230s, 7100, 8700g, 7290 and my current 7105t feel like the same machine. "Messages", "Address Book", "Calendar", etc. etc. are the same aps from unit to unit with only minor differences. Memory?
For each handheld, for it's purposes, substantial. Yes, the 6230 has only 16mb, but it's a text (not multimedia) machine. I like my current 7105t, but I would be equally happy with an equally usable 6230. At it's heart, a BlackBerry is a Blackberry! So, no, the 7290 is not obsolete -- seems to me that if multimedia is important, then we may be missing the point of BB --

The Bluetooth in a 7290 is for headset use only.

Yeah it does. With Desktop Manager, you would think that RIM would allow a Bluetooth connection with the computer (through DM) so you wouldn't have to bother with the USB cable. Why do the work to install Bluetooth, advertise it, then not give it the ability to communicate with other BT devices? Argh -- But that's RIM!

I dont think its obsolete. I've been using my 7290 for 2 1/2 years already. It's a pretty dependable device particularly for business applications. I say its pretty solid and gets the job done.
