    Help with dead 7230 pls

    I have a 7230 that refuses to boot up beyond a "prefetch exception".
    I have tried numerous times to reset it and have tried JL Cmdr to wipe it but as it won't boot, the 'puter won't recognise the @#*&ing thing.
    Is it dead?

    Thanks for the speedy replies.
    What is happening is that I am getting a mesage that the Desktop Software does not have Handheld software to install.

    You need to have your Handheld software installed on your computer.

    This is one of the first instructions I believe in the thread I linked to.

    Go here from your PC to download the newest OS from your carrier:

    Yep, done all of that, new Desktop and Wireless Handheld Software.

    After uninstalling or reinstalling did you restart your PC?

    are you getting an error when following the instructions at the thread I linked to? if so what step are you getting stuck or having an error at, and what is the exact error or problem?

    With those steps there hasnt been a BB I havent been able to save yet.

    ~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~you need to restart your computer after uninstalling its a healthy habit especially with windows

    Other than that let us know where you are getting stuck or what error on the reinstalling os thread and we can help you through it

    I've reinstalled the Desktop and the Handheld OS and it still tells me there's no software to install.
    I'm tired, I've been at this thing for 41/2 hours now for no result.
    Maybe I'll attack it tomorrow, thanks for your help so far.

    Try deleting the vendor.xml file. it should be located in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader Folder. Then try to reload the OS.

    I worked to the point of clicking the "Advanced tab" as outlined in the following link.

    From there, the screen went blank and the red LED flashes twice every few seconds and the thing won't go any further.
    Hard reset won't work, battery in and out won't work.
    Now what?

    Ok, Now you have the software, let's start over and go step by step and maybe we can get it working. It this doesn't work I'm going to think it's probably a hardware problem.

    1. Connect you BB to your PC
    2. Open JL_Cmder,
    3. Select the Wipe Option (5)
    4. Follow the instructions in this thread very carefully, How To: ReInstall OS When Computer Won't recognize The Device Is Connected
      • Be sure to follow everything carefully, especially the items in Red
