Question 7520 upgrade disables phonebook lookup?

When I received my 7520, I was able to go into the phone app, type in a name, and dial. However, ever since I upgraded to version of 4.1.0.273 (Platform 1.5.0.38), I can't type in a name from the phone screen. I can only type in a number. To dial using an address in memory, I have to go to the Address Book, select a contact, and dial from there.

    Any ideas?

See, I can't use the phonebook while in the phone app. Kinda makes the phone app useless. If I can only use the phone app to dial using digits, and I can dial using digits from the homepage, why would I even need the phone app?

What I'd LIKE is to get back the ability to go into the phone app, start typing a name, select it and dial.

Why would RIM take this feature away?!?

Yes I agree!! What kind of "UPGRADE" reduces functionality! I have confirmed this with RIM, and the only fix.... is to go back to 4.0 - fine by me!

asadowsky and silentbobby, Welcome to PinStack.

Yes this was a mistake on RIM's part when the took this away from all the BBs that don't have a Phone button on the front panel. You can still perform something similar using the filter by typing in your address book. It does the same look up that was done in the Phone App.

Many thanks for welcoming me to the forum. Of course, I made my original post back in early May, but who's counting...

Yeah, this is similar, but not quite the same. In the phone app (the way it used to work) I'd perform the following steps:

    1. Enter the phone app
    2. Start typing the name until narrowed
    3. Hit the Enter key
    4. If there was more than one number, I'd be prompted to select the right number to dial, and a second hit of the enter key or trackwheel would dial.

    Now, I do the following:

    1. Enter the Address Book app
    2. Start typing the name until narrowed
    3. Click the trackwheel to bring up the menu
    4. Scroll and click to select "Call [Name]"
    5. If there was more than one number, I'd be prompted to select the right number to dial, and click the trackwheel again to dial.

Since this "upgrade", hitting the "enter" button on an address book entry opens the address book entry details page. I am, therefore, forced to use the trackwheel at least once more often. It's just inefficient and less intuitive, that's all.

Could I hope for another "upgrade" sometime that fixes these problems, or should I expect that this device is simply going to fade away sometime soon - that it has already been given an end-of-life, and therefore no further upgrades are due?

    Sigh...
