I have Suncom with internet access service only, not any BB services. Can I access the internet from my 7290 without having to pay for the BB services? No browser icon shows up on my screen. Thanks....

Hi 4sight, welcome to pinstack. The browser will only appear if you add a data plan. You could try to download a browser called Opera Mini, which I have used before to access internet on a BB that didnt have a plan. I hope that helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.

    w1w1d, Welcome to PinStack.

No, you cannot use any app that needs access to the RIM Data Network without a BB data plan properly activated on you account.

Let us know if there is anything else we can do to help with this problem or your BB.

    Hi Rcbjr,
You mean, there is difference how a 'normal' phone (Nokia / Motorola GPRS phones) access GPRS and how the Blackberry does. Right? Could you explain me where, and why? Many2 thx.

Yes, There is a difference, Blackberry devices, by design use the RIM network for data. This was set up for security reason I believe, but continues to be the case. This is what allows the BES and BIS to operate in the manner designed. A "normal" data capable phone accesses the carrier network only and uses that as the data backbone to access the internet.

I don't know all the details or what agreements the carriers have with RIM but you can't get data service on a BlackBerry without a Blackberry data plan. It it this plan that authorizes the blackberry to access, first the carrier's network, then the RIM network. I believe this access is controlled by the PIN.

    Hope this helps
    Rcbjr.
