7290 Cingular Browser and internet browser ?'s

Ok, quick question, how come many of the other 7290 BB's have 2 browsers in them and mine only has one? Mine just has the cingular browser. What will the other browser do for me and how do I get one installed on my BB CIngular 7290? Thanks in advance.

I don't have cingular but i think the cingular browser may be limited to cirtain sites. The regular Blackberry browser can browse almost all sites on the web. I'm probably not 100% correct. So I'll wait to be corrected.

derelict727, Have you tried to send your Services Books from the BIS Site? Tried to do a Register Now from the Options/Host Routing Table Menu? You should have at least two Browsers on your 7290. When you go to the Browser Bookmarks, what do you see?

Re: 7290 Cingular Browser and internet browser ?'s

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~Rcbjr, I see the Cingular browser and the blackberry browser both. I haven't tried doing anything from the BIS site yet. I wonder if there's a setting or something I'm missing on the handheld. I was also wondering if the software version on the handheld and the desktop might have something to do with it. How do I tell what SW version I have and how can I get the latest/best version? Thanks again.

Are you sure that you only have one browser, it looks like you have both if I'm reading you right. In the Bookmarks Page, do you see:

    +LINKS
    O BlackBerry HELP!
    +[]Cingular Browser
    +[]Blackberry Bookmarks.

OK I can't create the images so i substituted for them.

If you see something like the above you have two browsers, the WAP (Cingular) Browser and the Internet Browser. You should have two Icons on your Home Screen. Have you accidently hidden one of the Icons. From the Home Screen press ALT (the funky Half Moon key) + trackwheel to open the menu, IF you see Show ALL select it. And look for a Brower icon with a red X through it. If so Select it repeat the access to the menu and Deselect Hide App. Then you can unselect Show all. If this doesn't work let us know and we'll try something else.

Oh, man. I see the Blackberry and Cingular bookmarks that you mentioned. I still only have 1 browser icon and that is the Cingular one.

The problem I have is that I tried from the main screen, to do like you said- pushing the ALT button and the trackwheel at the same time- all I see is the "hide menu, hide application or move applivation" options. I must be doing something else wrong.

Nope, I don't think you are doing anything wrong yet. Try logging into your BIS account and looking for Send Service Books, CLick on that and then from your BB go to Options/Advanced Options (if that's Availabel)/Host Routing Table and Open the Menu and do a Register Now. The do a Cold Reboot (Battery Out, wait 15-30 Sec., Battery In).

Further thought, I'm starting to wonder if this is not related to the implementation of BIS 2.1. I haven't transitioned from BIS 1.8 so can't really say. I think the announcement said something about a combined browser. Do you have any Http bookmarks in you Blackberry bookmarks?

    Lets see if this works.

I have TMobile and I have been so confused about this. I only have one browser icon that is labeled Browser. It has all of the bookmarks you mentioned plus access to the Web. I am on BIS.

Re: 7290 Cingular Browser and internet browser ?'s

Ok, the more I hear about this, the more I think it may be related to the transition from BIS 2.0 => 2.1. I remember reading something in the 2.1 announcement about a single browser, but I was paying more attention to the part about being able to open PDF/DOC/PPT files from the Browser, which BTW, works with BIS 1.8 also. I'll go back and read the announcement again.

Re: 7290 Cingular Browser and internet browser ?'s

Now I'm really confused, I went to hydn's post on More about the new BIS 2.1 features, but it says a new Internet Browser and that it's available on the New BBs, 7130, 8700, and 8707. I really don't know what more to say.

    Totally Confused

You don't have the TZones browser Erica?

I'm TMo too, and I have 2 browsers. Both of them when you open them up have

    [+] T-Zones Links
    [+] Web Links
    [+] T-Zones
    [+] Blackberry Bookmarks

I only had the TZones browser before I upgraded my OS...

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I have the T Zones links and the bookmarks, and a regular browser all in one. I don't have 2 browser icons.

OK. I'm sorry to have to keep this dumb thread going, but I am trying to get this fixed. Sorry. Thanks for all the help. I'm still having trouble, though.

I logged into my BIS account, clicked on the service books options, and clicked options. I just have under options "browser configuration, general properties and cache operations." I resent the service books earlier and did a hard reset. Still nothing. Any other ideas? (Cingular isn't much help on the issue, either.)

derelict, on your BB, open the browser, then Bookmarks and expand the Blackberry Bookmarks. Do you have any Bookmarks listed? If so, click on one and note what the screen says while the site is loading. Tell us what it displays. Exit the Browser and repeat with the Cingluar Bookmarks. and tell us what you see then.

    We'll Keep Trying.
