    Sync Problems 8800 and PocketMac

Had anyone successfully synchronized an 8800 with a mac os via PocketMac?
When I sync the contacts with entourage it will only sync like a third of them (of all categories) and leave out the rest!

(tried missing sync already... what a desaster... so many errors I can't even begin).

PLEASE, SOMEONE GIVE ME A CLUEEE..... :-(

I really feel like PocketMac 4.0 is a joke. If it doesn't work, PM tells you to talk to RIM, and then RIM only helps fractionally- use synclean unplug BB replug BB open PM again...what a load of garbage. I wish there was some way to get 4.2 on an 8700 working with PM 4, but no one would help, so I am using PM3.0 with 4.1...oh well

Good Luck, I hope you figure it out, or get some support...

pocketmac seems to work sometimes on my new 8800. i can get it to sync one-way (from desktop to bb) with ical and addressbook but i can't get it to two-way sync. application downloads freeze each and every time i try, requiring a forcequit on the mac side and a reboot of the 8800. if you have had success using PM, especially for application loading, please post something here!

i am not sure but after hours of screwing around (and getting no response from pocketmac support) it seems like sync'ing is stalling when it looks for a SD media card. it doesn't seem to matter if the card is present or not. next thing to try... clearing the blackberry of contacts and calendar and resetting to first time sync to see if there is something out of order...

I agree, but the problem now is with RIM. They control the development and release of PocketMac and all support elements, too. I agree with you on PM3...it was actually better in many ways even though visually less sophisticated.

Re: Sync Problems 8800 and PocketMac

it does seem to be an "order in which things are done" problem. i made sure that my blackberry was not connected or shown as "available" on the status page. i then plugged in my bb, manually turned on mass storage (on the blackberry) saw the bb sd card mounted and watched the pm log until it showed the following:

    [09:41:48.144] 2007-06-21
    [09:41:48.178] PocketMac SyncManager Started
    [09:41:48.547] Blackberry -> /dev/cu.Blackberry
    [09:44:35.855] Finished:0

I then set PM to "reset all devices..." in the device tab and performed a sync, in this case sync'ing my contacts and calendar. It worked fine. Here's the rest of the log so you can see what it looks like:

    [09:44:37.015] Progress:ISyncClientConnectingPhase 1079574528
    [09:44:38.030] BlackBerry device pin 603099155

[09:46:13.739] Email sync disabled in preferences
    [09:46:14.565] Finished:0

After looking at other rounds of the log file, I am betting that there is a handshake problem as almost all of the "unsuccessful" rounds of sync'ing show minutes, rather than parts of a second between events. That would likely make the problem RIMs... as with lots of other USB devices, perhaps the 8800 is way underpowered or badly designed on the USB side. Unless, of course, another sync program like Missing Sync works...

So here's the other question... has anyone had better luck with Missing Sync?

Take out the battery, restart the mac, put battery back in. Wait for hour glass to stop spinning, plug in bb, open pocket mac, and sync.

Re: Sync Problems 8800 and PocketMac

I am now getting pocketmac to sync reliably, at least with iCal and Addressbook. Tenrten is correct that a battery reboot can make things more workable, especially if you have tried to sync and failed. Once you do the reboot, here is a procedure that works:

HOW TO: sync the 8800 with pocketmac

    Important tips:

    1. make sure the "mass storage mode" is set to prompt on the 8800.

    2. do these steps in this order. other orders *might* work but this
is the only one that I have found to reliably work.

    How it goes...

    1. Open Pocketmac. Be sure that you've set the sync settings as you want them to be.

If you want to track the progress of the sync, open the "sync log" window (its in the Window menu).

In the sync log, you will see something like this:

    ===============================================
    [11:02:28.232] 2007-06-22
    [11:02:28.236] PocketMac SyncManager Started
    [11:02:28.536] Blackberry -> /dev/cu.Blackberry

    2. Turn on your 8800 and connect it to the USB cable.

    3. When prompted on the 8800, answer "yes" to the question, do you want to turn on "mass storage mode"

    4. Click on the Sync button in Pocketmac.

In the sync log, you will see something like this:

    [11:08:41.572] Finished:0
    [11:08:42.756] Progress:ISyncClientConnectingPhase 1079574528
    [11:08:43.749] BlackBerry device pin 603099155
    [11:08:50.212] Begin synchronization
    [11:08:50.213] Synchronizing contacts
    [11:08:53.575] Made the connection
    [11:08:53.965] PocketMac version 4.0

    [11:08:57.858] All finished.
    [11:09:01.901] 14 changes/new records.
    [11:09:03.298] Synchronizing calendar
    [11:09:07.299] Made the connection
    [11:09:07.478] PocketMac version 4.0

    [11:09:23.033] All finished.
    [11:09:27.371] 634 changes/new records.
[11:09:48.666] Tasks sync disabled in preferences
    [11:09:48.666] Synchronizing bookmarks
    [11:09:52.707] 883 changes/new records.

    [11:10:26.212] Finished:0

The progress bar in the SyncManager window will disappear. You are sync'd. But be sure to do the following so that pocketmac closes in a known state:

    5. Unmount the media card by dragging it to the eject button.

    6. Disconnect the 8800 from the USB cable.

    7. Close Pocketmac.

Re: Sync Problems 8800 and PocketMac

Hi, some very strange thing have happened to me. Very first sync with my 8800 was smooth like kids arse. It worked either way. Than few days later I tryed it again. But my iCal sync did not seem to work. So I tryed synchronise all-day appointments, partial appointments I tryed "home" and "work" with notes without notes but no acctual written info transfered to BB. It seems that Pocketmac transfered times of meetings however, nothing more. I tryed it as shown above-no success.

    Any toughts anyone?

Hi everyone! I found the answer to my problem!

If you having problem syncing your appointments, make sure that the text for it is not longer that cca 120 signs! That is the maximum number the Pocketmac will sync to your BB. If you require more text write it down into "notes" section in your appointment details window.

Hope it will help if you have the same problem as me :-)

found a solution to the bb sync problem

I had some problems with to sync my mac adressbook-contacts my bb 8110 with pocketmac 4.1.25.
I did some research and I tried:

    1. deactivate the password function on your mac and in pm.
    2. start sync....thats it.
    3. after that, just activate the password function and done.
