Question Question on the MacBook Pro

    Hi all,

I have just purchased a MacBook Pro to replace my Toshiba Tablet (PM me if you are interested in buying a loaded one!). My main reason was to get off the Microsoft grid.

I have been able to sync fine (nice set-up between iCal, the BB, and google calendar, albeit a little manual).

The one major feature I am lacking now is the ability to use the BB as a tethered modem. Sigh.

So, I am now contemplating selling my 8700 (t-mobile) and just going with Verizon to get the data card that works with the MacBook Pro.

    Two questions:

    1) Can the 8700 on t-mobile be "unlocked" to use on the Verizon network?

    2) Any rumors as to how long it will be until mobishark or others have a driver / program to use the tethered 8700 using the MacBook Pro?

    Please comment if you know....

    Thank you,

    - mike

Any GSM device can be unlocked, in theory. But some providers will only allow IMEI numbers which they sold onto their network.

As for MacBook Pro, congratulations on your purchase!

If using a device as a modem is important for you, have you considered using Parallels software to run a windows session on the MacBook?

Don't know if it will work, but it's something to consider.

... I ordered the Verizon Wireless V620 online this morning. Will see if that works as advertised . I may have a BB 8700 for sale...

Re: Question on the MacBook Pro

I'm not sure that you'd be able to use the 8700 on verizon's networks due to interoperability problems. AFAIK the 8700 series is all GSM, while Verizon is a CDMA network (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
