This new version is a huge improvement over the previous versions of PocketMac. You can finally sync specific Address Book contact lists and specific calendars, and
it seems to play well with iSync and the whole Apple way of doing things.

I am currently using this, and I have to say that it does, finally, work.

Having said that, make sure to pay attention to the iSyncTool "Allow" windows. They tend to pop up behind the PocketMac window so it's easy to miss them. Also, NEVER check the "Remove XXX from iSync" boxes, just click "Allow" and you're done. There's a helpful dialog from PocketMac that tells you what to do, but you have to read it.

Currently, my only issue is with a Google Calendar that I have set as a Subscribed calendar in iCal. Changes to this calendar don't seem to propogate to the device.

Other than that, this is GREAT. Make sure you BACK UP EVERYTHING before upgrading, and get everything synced up before you move to the world of 4.0.

Good luck, and post here with issues, raves, rants, etc.

A quick question since I am really new to RIM. Can you upload apps to your Blackberry via PocketMac 4.0, or is it strictly for synching?

(BTW, sync worked great! Loving this...)

You can install and uninstall apps, but not OS upgrades to the Blackberry.

Just read the manual and figured out how to install apps, but it has been 5 minutes into the installation and I am still getting the "Connected" blue lines. How long should it take? Is something wrong here? Helppppppppp...!

I'm using Pocketmac 4.0 with my 8100 and it works fine except for the specific Address book groups, it just syncs all of them. Does anyone else have this problem?

    TIA

my calendar is only syncing one way, so adding to it on the bb is pointless as it's erased when i sync.

Thumbs down Re: PocketMac 4.0 released for BlackBerry

I would like to ask whoever says this version works great this question: What program are you syncing with?

To me, it seems fine with Address Book and Entourage. But I couldn't get it to work Now Contact and DayLite calendar. The previous version (3.13) at least had no problem with Now Contact.

I am syncing with all Apple stuff. Ical tasks and events, and address book. These all appear to work fine with the only caveat I mentioned earlier regarding a subscribed google calendar.

    Important

I'm new at this but have had no problems AFTER i did this:

1st you must open pocketmac on your mac.

2nd plug in your Blackberry to a hot USB port- (you can't use the port on
your monitor or keyboard- best to use a port on the actual cpu- at least this was the case for me)

3- WAIT! wait about 20-30 seconds for the blackberry to be recognized by the mac...there may be no official signal that you're ready to go, but trust me you've got to Wait... if you are having problems with the sync and that blue bar just keeps loading this is usually why.

4-now you can click the sync button on pocketmac. since I've started doing this I have never had a problem with the sync.

**also if the computer has just woken up from sleeping it may not recognize the blackberry the first time you plug it in. just unplug and try again.

~via BB (wap.pinstack.com)~ I have run into perhaps an unusual problem: I synced with PM early in the day with no difficulty at all, but then loaded a program with desktop manager on a PC at school, then when I got home PM wouldn't work anymore. Does it have feelings and feel I cheated on it and it's mad at me?

Re: PocketMac 4.0 released for BlackBerry

I find it very flaky in general. Oftentimes Ill have to do some combination of stopping/restarting pocketmac, unplugging/replugging BB to get syncing to work. Usually the first one after a reboot is the highest probability but still not guaranteed.

The biggest thing for me is to make sure pocketmac is running before plugging in. Otherwise the failure rate triples.
