    iChat on Blackberry

Hi, everyone. New BB user here after my Treo 600 died a few days ago.

As a heavy iChat user, I thought I'd share my experience in trying to get my 7130 to see my buddies.

First the documentation in the MEdiaNet app that came loaded on my BB hinted that maybe aim was already there, but that seems a false start as I could never get to a setup screen. Seems to have Yahoo and MSN chat, but no AOL.

Then I downloaded Ramble, which is free. It worked fine for regular aim buddies, but it does not seem to work for .mac accounts.

Finally, a bit apprehensive (because nowhere did I find whether BB im apps would work with iChat), but needing to be able to communicate with several folks that only had .mac accounts, I plunked down $50 to buy IM+. That did it. It works very nicely with iChat. I was able to see my buddies immediately. I have not tried to import my buddy list from my mac, but did enter the 20 or so more common by hand.

One more thing, the automatic setup in the app had an http interface selected. I found the program much more responsive if that's changed to TCP/IP.

Hope this is helpful to anyone else in the same boat.

    Re: iChat on Blackberry

It certainly appears to be. I'll post more on it as I get more experience using it.

If it helps any I just upgraded my BES and Exchange Servers at the office, if your balking at $50 the invoice in front of me would probably leave you speachless. You get what you pay for and if you want free try Ramble IM, I have a couple friends that use it with AIM and iChat, not bad by any stretch but you get what you pay for so it does lack in areas.

So if you have unlimited data it shouldn't be an issue?

Can you guys download TMo's IM Client, or is that lame compared to the options you all are looking at?
