Thumbs up 9000 and 8900 Cradle Reviews

I could have sworn we had an accessories forum, but I can't seem to find it. Anyways..

After using the charging cradle for the Bold for a week or so, the first thing I did after ordering my 8900 was to purchase it's own cradle. (And a hard case, of course)

As you can see, you plug the mini/micro usb plug into the back of the unit and plop your phone right in. I have my 8900 set to show the clock when I charge it, so the clock pops up. Simple, really. The Bold cradle is ginormous compared to the 8900 version.

Build quality is pretty solid, it has a rubber grip on the bottom to prevent slipping. I got each for under $20 on eBay, cheaper than most cases! Does what I need it to do, and with some elegance. Definitely recommended.

    9/10 for both

    I'll answer any questions!

Enter the Clock/Alarm application. Hit Menu, click Options.
There should be an option that says:

    When Charging:
    1. Do Nothing <-- is the one you want.
    2. Display Clock
    3. Enter Beside Mode

Edit: Glad you found it! I'll leave this here in case anyone else wanted to know

    Question

So it connects with the 8900 and charges via the 2 metal points beside the battery latch???

Yes. And on the 9000, it charges with the metal contacts on both sides.

I can understand how that can charge with those 2 contacts, but does it sync too?

No, unfortunately it's only a charger.

Cool!! Will it harm the blackberry if I have it in the cradle charging and connected to the computer via the USB cable at the same time?

I have not tried that! I'm a little afraid to now, to be honest. However, on the instructions it states that you should not use the USB cable (plugged into a computer of course) plugged into the back of the unit. Only a charger plugged into an electrical outlet.

really? my instructions does not say that...it does say to plug it in....but doesn't say anything about USB (i have a curve)

I have accidentally done this a few times since my charging pod is right next to my computer...no harm that I can see...but who knows what would happen if left like that overnight ?

I charge my Pearls on mine all the time. If you have DM open when you drop the phone into the cradle, the synch/backup will begin.
