Background:

Blackberry Curve 8310, OS 4.5
Windows XP
Desktop Manager 4.5
BIS through AT&T/Cingular
Recently updated service books

Use Outlook 2007 for work / email syncs via POP3 using BIS / wired sync via desktop manager for calendar, tasks, contacts.

Have a couple of personal emails / email sync via POP3 using BIS.

Do NOT use any other calendar other than the Outlook calendar.

Problem:

Multiple calendar service books (CICALs) were created on/sent to the device. The default service for calendar (options - advanced - default services - calendar) was set to the Outlook email account, but some calendar entries were getting flagged under the outlook email account, others under the personal email account - issues in partcular would arise from accepting Outlook invites on the device. Wired sync would only sync EITHER but not both of the different types of calendar entries into Outlook. No way to change the CICAL character of a calendar entry on the device. Needed to get all of my calendar into Outlook, eliminate the double or triple CICALs and stop new entries from ending up with the wrong CICAL flag on the device.

Solution (after a lot of research and trial and error):

1. Backup the device using Desktop Manager.

2. Clear the Calendar database on the device using Desktop Manager / Backup and Restore / Advanced / select the device calendar - All (right side of the screen) and CLEAR.

3. Delete all of the CICAL service books EXCEPT the primary one you use (the Outlook email account in my case - yours may differ). [on the device - Options - Advanced - service books - delete the offenders one by one]

4. Battery pull hard reset.

5. Restore the just backed up Calendar database to the device using Desktop Manager / Backup and Restore / Advanced / open the backup file you just made on the "computer" side / select the calendar database / press the arrow pointing from left to righ in the middle of the screen.

6. You should now have your entire device calendar on the device with no "account" flags on any of the items.

7. Set your synchronize options / advanced / calendar / confirmations to CONFIRM DELETIONS, CHANGES AND ADDITION (2 boxes to check).

8. Synchronize your device to your computer via Desktop Manager.

9. When the warning box appears for the calendar, you should see the entire computer side being added to the device (don't worry) and a handfull of entries being added to the computer (these are the lost calendar items that had the wrong CICAL flag). Press the details button to confirm the content if you are not sure.

10. If you are happy with the result, press accept. If you are not happy, this wasn't your problem and I don't know what to tell you......

11. You now have the computer side in Outlook with a complete calendar (including your lost items from before) - and a device with twice the calendar you used to have.

12. Go back to Desktop Manager and (for the second time) clear the Calendar database on the device using Desktop Manager / Backup and Restore / Advanced / select the device calendar - All (right side of the screen) and CLEAR.

13. Go and re-synchronize your device using Desktop Manager. You should see the entire computer side calendar copied onto the device and there should be NO CICAL flags on any of the entries.

14. Take a deep breath and stop double booking yourself in San Francisco and Atlanta for the same week.....

Hope this helps someone else out there.
