    HELP!!! Software Installation Problem

    Hello Everyone!!

    New BB user here and new to the website. Fantastic information here. Keep up the good work. My question is that I just bought the BB 8100 Pearl and the BB User Tools installation CD will not run on my laptop and therefore I don't have BB Desktop Software on my computer. I insert the cd and after a brief few seconds of reading a message appears that says "setup.exe has encountered a problem............." and asks to send or not send a report to windows. Then it stops and closes the program. I tried restarting my computer and re-installling but same problem occurs. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it? Is there a problem with my CD and if so, is there a website where I can get the program. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am eager to jump into the BB world.

    Okay I am currently downloading BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.2 (English only). Do I also need to download BlackBerry Device Manager v4.2 (English) or is this included with the desktop software download

    Bertdogg, I believe it is included in the DM download. I never downloaded it separately

    Sweet I got the download to work. I guess there is a problem with my CD. Thanks you guys for all ur help. Now I'm gonna go have some fun. Any hints on sites with free ringones, games, etc just to get me started. Also I dont have any maps and I am currently not on a wireless internet plan yet(just got the phone). Where can I find maps? Thank you again for your patience.

    Try Mobile41 and Tuneusin for ringtones. For the Maps you will need to add the Blackberry Data Plan to your Cellular Account, Then you can get BB maps or Googl Maps For Mobile. They both need the data access to work.

    I think Pin Stackers should put some more .alx files on here

    Most stuff has be to donwloaded OTA
    Which really aint a big deal, I just like to use internet on my PC more than on my phone lol (Lazy)

    I have a problem. When sincronize 8100 with desktop manager 4.2 in outlook calendar appears this :

    ok,

    I had the same issue. solution was:

    1. Enable logging: btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB01 451&sliceId=SAL_Public&dialogID=58626554&stateId=0 %200%2032157958 (starts with blackberry DOT com/)
    2. Sync (it will crash).
    3. Open tif.log and scroll to the bottom to identify the failing record (its the last unfinished one).. on mine it was record #433
    TIFPutRecord/U (P-item #433 marked)
    -------- ILXOLK finished processing a_record_for_export_to_TIF, rc=0, nRc=0, action=3
    -------- ILXOLK starting assembly of a_record_for_export_to_TIF
    4. Search top of tif.log for name or date of record so that you can find it in mail client.
    5. Delete or fix record in your mail client.
    6. Sync. You should be ok...

    and dont forget to undo logging. files grow FAST.

    For mine it was that somehow in outlook the event scheduling for a calendar entry had me listed 15 times as an attendee.
