Question DTM 4.3 on Vista just disappears

I upgraded to a Lenovo T61 dual core 64. After intalling the DTM 4.3, I couldn't get it to run. when I start the DTM, it just flashes briefly and winks out. Something seems to be interfering with it. (I'm using Vista Business.) Any ideas out there?
    Thanks.

First thing I would try is to Uninstall it and download a fresh copy of the multi language version from the link in my blog. Make sure you install in an Administrator profile.

If that does not work post back....

I had the same issue with my Vista Home Premium POS. I had to reboot and it started working.

Gary, I did as you recommended (exactly); same problem. I don't think it's the install. I think it's a service running on Vista that's causing the problem. If you have any other ideas, please advise. Otherwise, I'll try and create a minimum install service set that works and try loading the DTM. Thanks.

Here are a couple of links for you to look over. The Vista one is pretty lenghty and tehcnical and involves registry changes

BlackBerry Desktop Manager abruptly closes when opened from Windows Vista

You may also want to try a clean uninstall - again the steps for this are found in this article.

Perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software

Good luck and let us know your progress!

Gary, I followed all the instructions for a clean uninstall and reinstall, but I can't find out why DTM 4.3 won't install properly. It seems to load just fine, but when I run it it just flashes on the screen and then quits. ??

    Thanks!

Download the application from the internet and when you install it make sure you don't just double click the install file. You want to right click on it and run as administrator. Also did you follow the instructions in the article referenced above to look at the registry permissions?

Might be those versions, I'm running Vista Ultimate and have not experienced any problems with 4.3 at all, but then maybe I'm just lucky sorry for your problems

ablefton you can try to boot in safe mode then do a system restore to when it worked or you can go back to befor you installed it then just reinstall a fresh copy of DTM. rim site has 4.3b out with or without roxio media manger. and the reason it flashes like that is one of the reg keys doesnt have the right permission set in vista and it is a pain to fix.

Hi Gary. I have experienced the same problem in vista business. the DM ran fine up until recently then suddenly quit (ie the dialogue would open but no icons etc then it would close)
I uninstalled the software then reinstalled version 4.3 w/o the multimedia as I was advised that their might be a problem with that version and I wasn't using multimedia on my BB.
Any way the new version worked fine until I restarted the system then same problem again.
I have tried all of the fixes mentioned in your post.but no change.
    Any other ideas?

    PTBA,

    Welcome the Pinstack!

If you have tried fixes regarding the file registration and permissions it may be time to try version 4.2.2 (I can attest that this version will run in Vista and is fully functional if not as pretty).

It can be found at the same link in my blog as 4.3 - be sure and keep us updated on your progress.
