Question DM shows 8700 connected; Media Manager says "There is no device connected"

    Post title says it all.

My 8700 connects just fine (can install apps for example). When I click on the Media Manager Icon, MM fires up, but it informs me that I need to connect a device...

    Anyone else seen this?

Re: DM shows 8700 connected; Media Manager says "There is no device connected"

From the DM Menu select Options --> Connection Settings. Click the [Detect] button, then the [OK] button to the message "Please ensure that the device is connected properly".

The device should then be detected.

It's interesting that DM may not automatically detect a connected device - even when you know the device is properly connected because you were asked for the device's password when you plugged it in. In such a situation, once the detection occurs, you'll be asked for the password again! And yet again if you run the Application Loader!

Thumbs down Re: DM shows 8700 connected; Media Manager says "There is no device connected"

Hi, thanks for the quick responses.

    I am using DM 4.2.2.14 [Apr 26 2007].

    I am using an 8700:
    v4.1.0.258 (Platform 2.0.0.111)
    Cryptographic kernel v3.8.3.7

As I say, when I plug into the USB cable, DM detects it and I have to enter my password. I can then install apps etc.

When I select Media Manager, this software tells me my device is not connected...

    Sorry. Sleepy eyes.

Media Manager doesn't work with the 8700. It's designed to work with BlackBerry's SD card.

I believe this can be corrected when the 8700 OS has been updated to 4.2.1.xx. Not positive as I haven't tried it. Don't know if 4.2.1 has been released for your carrier, but it's out there

    Hope this helps.

    Hmmph!

Thanks for that, I've spent the weekend trying to get this all set up! :-)

Any idea how I can manage files on the 8700?

Re: DM shows 8700 connected; Media Manager says "There is no device connected"

Explain "manage files" the BlackBerry is based more on a database data structure as opposed to a directory tree structure from what I can tell. It's only when you get into OS 4.2 and the media card that a tree type file structure shows up. And that's pretty limited

    Hope this helps.

Thanks - I was hoping to be able to transfer media files to/from the device, rather than do OTA.

Re: DM shows 8700 connected; Media Manager says "There is no device connected"

Once you get the OS 4.2 on your 8700, I think you will be able to do it. Check your carrier's BB software website for the latest OS. There just might be a 4.2 update available.

    Hope this helps.

Ahem, it's a corporate BB, so upgrading the OS might be tricky...

Well, if there is one available for your carrier, get your IT department to do it for you. Find some excuse for a company related need for the new OS

    Hope this helps.

Re: DM shows 8700 connected; Media Manager says "There is no device connected"

    Hi,

I have a Blackberry 7100g, with the OS 4.1. I wanted to download the Desktop Manager for my handheld, but I don't know where I can find it and which version of the manager is compatible with my phone?

    Help anyone?

Lillux, try here, BlackBerry Desktop Software. I would go with at least 4.1. Sp1 as that soesnt have media manager which your BB can't use (smaller download) but has the latest USB drivers.

    Hope this helps.
